ok ok some semi coherent YA thoughts let's do this
1. I'm sad we didn't get anything new from Kate and Noh-Varr besides the preview pages. Overall I thought this issue ended too soon? It would've benefited from some more pages to help flesh out everything a little more. The pace was a bit rushed.
2. DAMNIT KAPLAN
3. lol Billy and Teddy's fight tho, ~*~EXPOSITION TIME~*~. I know it was meant to be a dramatic moment but I was just kinda trying not to laugh the entire time???? This goes back to point one, I think, the fight felt too rushed. If Mr Gillen had just one more page to drag the fight out a little more it wouldn't feel so awkward.
4. I'm completely in love with America and how she's so matter-of-fact about everything. Especially about punching Loki in the face. Hoping we see more of her in the later issues.
5. DAMNIT KAPLAN. lol but for real now, I know the urge to strangle the kid is very high right now but honestly, with powers like those it was just to be expected. Billy is single minded and very emotional, so when he says "I'd do anything for you" he means it 100%, just like Teddy means it. The problem is, Billy, unlike Teddy, can LITERALLY do anything he wants. That's just disaster waiting to happen. With powers like those any bad decision is going to escalate into a world-altering disaster.
6. And of course trying to bring someone back to life just screams BAD IDEA to anyone with a drop of common sense in their heads. Don't you read comics, Billy? You should be more genre savvy than this. This arc is going to make him grow as a person, though, and after this he's going to think a little more before using his powers. Billy needs a little of peter parker advice here tbh with great power comes great responsabilty and etc etc
7. But when I say he needs peter parker advice I don't mean he needs to have his parents killed ok I'm 9000000% done if the Kaplans are dead, I'M NOT HERE FOR DEAD PARENTS. They have two little kids besides Billy for god's sake, what's gonna happen to them? The Kaplans are not dead, nope, I simply refuse to believe it. Not going to happen.
EDIT TO ADD that I also didn't like how they said the Kaplans were Billy's foster parents. Because they're not?? Billy isn't adopted???? He has some weird soul thing going on with Wanda but he wasn't born in the Maximoff family, much less put into the adoption system and later taken in by the Kaplans. comics pls.
Overall I liked it tho, 8/10 would read again. It was a bit awkward but it IS the first issue, when everyone has to be introduced and all that. I'm confident the pace will be ten times better next month.
