The first shot at real freedom came at the hand of finally cracking the code, or cracking something. Delores always said he had the equations all off, but he knew that the first chance he was given to actually go back in time, he was going to take it. Technically it was jumping into the future from where he was currently at, seeing that his next assignment was the assassination of JFK, but he definitely didn’t want to be that guy. And so, with a brief relapse, he created the dimly lit blue portal to the future, hopefully the right one this time. Anything before the apocalypse he would be okay with.
One small step for man, and a giant leap for Five as he tumbled through, practically pushing himself through time before finally feeling the dead air of the new place. The portal closed back up after zapping Five of most of his energy, before he looked down to realize that the time travel did more than just send him to some new time and place. He looked decades younger, something he could only blame back on the equations. “Shit.” He murmured before looking around the area, finding himself to be on the edge of some town named Hawkins.
It didn’t take long for him actually start into the town. His first goal was to find out when he landed, and then he’d take it from there. Passing through however, he saw a seemingly active arcade, something that caught his attention more than he cared to admit. He had never seen one of those, and so his curiosities got the best of him as he entered the Palace Arcade to take a quick peek around, finding kid after kid on machine. Pulling aside one of them, he quickly asked, “Is this what you guys do around here for fun?”
