Tanith WILL Gaslight Gatekeep Girlboss you to death
Now that it’s out, here’s my piece for the Sornieth Zine! Be sure to click on it for detail or click here to open the image in a separate window so you can zoom in and look at all the Stuff! :D
The dragons featured are the Acolytes, and the theme of the zine was Home, so this is their usual homey setup when taking a break from their nomadic endeavors.
The Acolytes have a new face (the pearlcatcher)! Her name is Pox and she is just baby.
Happy RoR from the nastiest plague cultists in the wasteland!
Here's an ask to fill your time; how do your dragons celebrate birthdays? If you have any gen 1s, do they get to pick a birthday?
It definitely varies from clan to clan and even from dragon to dragon! Most folks in Heatherhive probably celebrate in a similar manner to how we humans do; a party, gifts, sweets, etc.
Gen 1s in my lore have mysterious origins or were abandoned shortly after hatching; and so if they celebrate their birthday (or.. hatchday) it'd likely be on a date that they or their parent/guardian picked out that seems to be a close enough approximation.
Then you have individuals like the Acolytes who dont typically keep track of individual birthdays, just the new year, and they just sorta celebrate everyone at once.
Then you have those like Limerick and his pals who either don't have any concept of birthdays or parties, or are just so many thousands of years old that they've lost track of the right day or grown bored of celebrating so often.
How does your clan treat those who break the law? Also, do they have a prison? -Sun
My main clan Heatherhive is fairly uptight when it comes to morality-based laws. Individuals who disrupt the peace by consistently getting into fights, murdering, majorly stealing, etc get essentially banned from returning. If they return, the guards bordering town will stop the offender from reentering, but they try to avoid unnecessary violence.
They do have a small area in the guards’ headquarters for temporarily holding individuals, but they don’t have a prison. The holding cell itself is for questioning lawbreakers whose crimes were questionable or not severe; If their motives or situations deem their crime necessary (stealing to eat, killing in self-defense, so on) they’ll likely be aided rather than banned, given shelter and food and assistance until the dragon is back on their feet.
My smaller side-clan/cult, the Scav Acolytes, however, take rule-breaking very seriously and it’s ill-advised to get on their bad side. They don’t have a prison since they’re nomadic and their laws aren’t based in morality or safety, but rather they have their own rules based in their cult beliefs. No use of modern medicines or vaccinations, strictly injury-based medical care, no treating of illnesses, no treating wounds that are already infected, no slandering the Plaguebringer or preventing Her from doing Her work, so on and so forth.
An example of what these guys do to their “rulebreakers” is a fairly recent occurrence between the cult’s leader, Tanith, and her (ex)partner and medic, Hirund. Hirund was secretly attempting to care for his fellow cultists, slipping medicines and vitamins into their drinks, thoroughly disinfecting his tools, stopping any wounds from being infected in the first place, getting secret medical supplies from a visiting friend from an allied clan, etc. Tanith found this out and went to talk alone with Hirund, drew an X on his face with a dagger and carved “heretic” into his chest, then left with all his things (medical supplies included). She would’ve killed him on the spot if he hadn’t been her partner.
So that’s how the plague cultists deal with their laws lmao this got a lot longer than I thought it would woops. Thanks for asking!
man i really want to draw a side by side comparison of my two clans’ leaders because on one hand you have this tall elegant guardian who pursues knowledge and cares deeply for the safety of her clan
then you’ve got this small ripped wildclaw who’s always accompanied by 2+ bonepickers or hyenas and she’s like fuck yeah love my PlagueMom, talk shit get hit, fight me, I’ll murder you and make a knife out of your bones hell yeah
15, 19?
15. What about family? Are they nuclear (husband, wife, children) or extended (several generations in one home)? Something else?
There are a lot of big families at Heatherhive, and a lot of dragons are related in some manner of speaking (be it by blood or not). There are definitely individuals with more nuclear families, there are some where multiple generations house together, there are some where families are completely split apart and live separately, there are “open” families who are fluid and will adopt/foster children or take in new partners. Heatherhive is A Lot.
The Scavs are mostly unrelated blood-wise, but consider themselves one large family. None are particularly in a set relationship, promiscuity among each other and strangers is common with them and is put in a positive light. There are rarely children in the group for long, and when there are, they are often adopted out to allies or the kid runs away or gets sick.
19. What are your clan’s values? What’s considered “good” and what’s considered “bad”?
Heatherhive and the Scavs have almost exact opposite moral standards. Heatherhive strives to fight different strains of plagues. Science and education are considered very good things to have at Heatherhive. “Good” things here would be strong work ethics, pleasant personalities, and similar beliefs against the Plague. “Bad” things at Heatherhive are unnecessary violence, lack of hygiene, and carelessness.
The Scavs on the other hand believe that anything going against the Plaguebringer is inherently Bad. Modern medicine, thorough hygiene, etc. They aren’t below thievery or murder, so long as it benefits them in their goals and if it isn’t directed towards fellow Acolytes. Good things for them would be survivability, fighting skills, unwillingness to back down, and of course a strong love for the Plaguebringer.
#3 and #5!! (food & animals,,, two of the best things in the world)
Oop I answered 5 right as you sent this so I’ll just do 3!
3. What about domesticated animals? Does your clan just go with the usual farm animals, or do they have something more exotic?
Animal rearing is something that only a few of the dragons at Heatherhive do, usually those with bigger agricultural areas on the outskirts of town will have at least a few animals of the typical variety; Chickens, goats, etc. There’s some in town that specialize in breeding or raising specific animals, though; -Miela is an apiarist and raises bees for wax and honey. -Knucke and Tim have a large aquaponic garden, growing plants alongside fish, both of which are to be eaten. -Rama breeds and raises snakes as pets (and occasionally food, but. He prefers to sell them as pets).
The Scav Acolytes don’t raise animals for food, but Tanith has a menagerie of critters that she uses for corpse-finding and bone-collection, including a bonepicker gryphon and both varieties of hyena. She’s very fond of them.
