Shosh was standing in line at the bar—which normally she didn’t have to do, except that Plasma was absolutely packed with patrons tonight. She was tapping her foot with seeming impatience, but in truth, Shosh wasn’t all that bothered by having to wait; she was happy for Robin, that the place was doing well. And Shosh was just genuinely in a good mood.
Her hair felt heavy and hot after some hard dancing, and Shosh gathered it up in a fist and held it up and off her neck to get some air on her flushed skin. She was bobbing a little, subconsciously, in time with the music, when suddenly a pair of very muscular arms hoisted her up from behind and spun her around. Shosh yelped in surprise, and was about to go into defensive mode when she was set back gently on her feet, and she realized it was just Derek. “Holy fuckin’ hell Derek, you gave me a fright—I was about a second away from kicking you in the nads…” Shosh said, blinking away her dizzy vision.
“Oh, my bad!” Derek replied apologetically, harmless and obtuse as ever. “But hey—what a coinkydink, huh? When I saw you I was just about to grab some drinks for me and…”
In that moment, as Shosh looked over Derek’s shoulder and laid eyes on her former best friend moving their way, time seemed to slow down to a near halt. She could no longer hear Derek’s voice, or even the skull-reverberating music that was blasting from the club’s speakers, over the stuttered thump-thump, thump-thump of her own pulse in her ears. All the color drained from her face (not that Shosh really had that much color to her pale complexion to begin with).
Everyone held their positions for one very tense minute. Say something. Don’t give that prick the satisfaction of the first word—
“Cassius,” Shosh blurted out, curt and abrupt. She sniffed, her spine straightening. “It’s good to see you so…out and about. Not really your scene, if I recall…”

Arielle furrowed her brows at his words. "Well, we should find you someone that you feel that way around that's not going to tell you that you're like a brother to her." She didn't judge him for the fact he had an attraction to a beautiful woman. He deserved the best and that's what she was determined to find for him. She laughed as she walked down the street with him, raising her hand to grab his as it dangled over her shoulder. "There is no pressure. We'll get you trashed and you won't have to worry about a single thing." She chuckled. "Alright, promise? Tonight is just about the two of us hanging out and having a great time. You'll just be going home and getting laid. It's the only difference."

Allison’s mind was a whirlwind, panicked and stressed thoughts filling her head. She hadn’t even been home that night, crashing at someone’s place because she couldn’t see the pack - they knew her, and as soon as they saw her, they’d know something was up. The only thing she’d done was shoot a text to Derek, asking him to feed the rats that night, knowing that if she asked Scott to do it, he’d ask too many questions. As soon as she got to her dad’s storage she tore her jacket off, tossing it to one side, trying to ignore the black marks that now adorned each arm. She needed to find answers. Or rather, not find answers. Because there was no way her family knew about this and didn’t tell her. She couldn’t believe that.
But regardless, she had to make sure.
Hearing the door open made her jump, and she stood up from the box she was rummaging through, letting out a heavy sigh when she saw it was Derek. With everything that had gone on since the carnival, she couldn’t be sure they’d even been in a room alone.
“If Scott sent you because you told him I didn’t come home last night, then I’m fine. I don’t need babysitting.” She huffed, turning his back on him, finally giving up on neatly looking through the boxes, and just tipped one upside down to search the contents.
LOCATION: Castle Beach Pier WHO: @derekellisbartlett
The sky was of shades of blue, pink, orange, and purple as the sun began to set. Music echoed across the pier as Zaina walked down the line of food trucks alone, debating what she might want since everything looked appetizing. Somewhere along the way, a young man peaked her interest. He looked like a cute little lost puppy dog and her attention quickly shifted towards him. The woman made her way towards him and a smirk formed, “I don’t think I have seen you around these parts before.” Unable to resist, she moved even closer to him as her dark eyes settled on him. “I’m Zaina and you are?” Her eyebrow lifted.

Erica was still getting used to all of this werewolf stuff. She was playing a pretty big game of pretend at school and with Scott because Derek needed her to do a job. It was nice to be needed. She sat on top of one of the train carriages, waiting for the others to show up for their training session. She looked over and saw Derek making his way over to their training area. “I would jump on you but you told me never to do that again..”

It was getting late. The early winter breeze ruffled the messy golden curls that Erica hadn’t bothered to secure. More accurately, it was getting early. The moon had already started to set, skewing the shadows coming off the tombstones. The wolf brushed off the dead leaves that had collected on her clothes throughout the night. Her limbs were numb, the ground stealing any warmth she had.
She couldn’t keep coming here each week, spending all night lying among the dead: waiting. She didn’t belong here. Not anymore. She couldn’t keep resting with the dead, shadows settling around her where others used to be.
Stiff fingers caressed the frigid stone in front of her. She flicked away an errant leaf, a smudge of dirt. There was that singular spark of hope that had her returning. Like a moth to a flame. No matter that she wasn’t even sure there was a body underneath the stone.
She hadn’t been.
Erica didn’t remember where she had come back. She didn’t remember climbing out of her grave. She barely remembered Alec finding her, let alone where.
She only remembered the confusion. The overstimulation. How screeching metal, vibrating machinery, and a roar had rushed continuously through her ears. A never-ending cycle, fading in and out but never leaving. Sounds had clashed with the splotches of grey and darker grey that had been before her. Little pops of color had almost blinded her before they, too, faded into the grey. There had only been the scent of wet earth and the pull.
If there was a chance, just a chance, that she could help abate that. It would have to be worth flying into the flame. Her fingers traced along the B to the O before curling into fists.
She turned, shoe ripping up grass and dirt as she spun. Brown eyes burned with tears she refused to let fall. Disappointment was worse than the creeping corruption of wolfsbane. She was letting the past break her chest, again. The Missing, the Ache.
She just wanted the chance to say she was sorry.
A twig snapped beneath her rampaging feet, halting Erica's downward mental spiral. She stopped in her tracks, eyes squeezing shut. A sharp pain throbbed in her right hand. Warm blood trickled down her palm as Erica finally forced her hand out of its fist. Blood trailed down cold fingers, dripping down claws Erica hadn’t meant to bring out. The she-wolf forced a deep breath in, she couldn’t afford to get this upset. She had to calm down.
She breathed in and the scent of leather filled her nostrils, an uncannily familiar leather: soft and earthy, with just a faint hint of sweetness. Erica’s eyes widened. She couldn’t move. She couldn’t look around. Her feet were permanently rooted to the graveyard ground, senses filled with the nostalgic smell. Her heart was shaking in her chest.
Derek.
It was known throughout the marine rescue center that Effie was quite the klutz. There was the time she ended up spilling a whole bucket of fish guts on herself, that one she would never live it down and often still gets teased about it by her employees. The Marine biologist was good at her job and others often praised her for the work she accomplished. There only happened to be one man that Effie looked forward to hearing praises from. She didn’t know what it was about Derek, or the fact that he is sex on legs. That didn’t even sum it up, he was a marine biologist like here and just as smart if not, smarter than her. What was worse yet that Effie became an absolute mess whenever he was around, tripping over her own words more than usual and even her feet.
That evening when she was checking up on Ziggy, one of the bottle-nosed Dolphins. She happened to look up just as Derek walked out onto the platform, shirtless and wet. The brunette was going good all up to the point until he flashed that smile at her. Effie could feel her cheeks darkening, fumbling back to hide her embarrassment but ended up catching her foot on the non-slip mat and causing her to fall forward into the pool. There was a little shriek she was sure everyone would have heard, deepening her embarrassment even more.
