Theme song
Fizz doesn’t have a history outside of the clan. Her abandoned egg had been found by Eiszapfen during an expedition to the Southern Icefield, and he’d brought the egg back to be raised by him and Axolotl. A little fae hatched, and she was raised within the tangle of brambles for several years.
Her shy and reclusive behavior led most others to believe she didn’t exist, or that she was simply a ghost, or even a figment of Eis and Axolotl’s imaginations after the loss of many children. Very few knew she had been real, and even then, over time, they’d long forgotten about her.
When the clan moved from their lair in the brambles to their underground caves, hidden by thick pines, Fizz remained hidden. Where she’d previously hidden among thorns, now she ruled the crevices of the cave system, hiding in the nooks and crannies in the earth that other dragons couldn’t reach.
She was found once, by one dragon. Another fae like her, named Dammerung, a curious little dragon who, with great persistence, became her friend. However, aside from he and her parents, she’d entirely faded into legend. A myth. And she preferred life this way. From there, she could help in her own little ways, dropping lost items near their owners or pointing someone in the right direction with a drop of a pebble, all without interference or the eyes of others upon her.
Her quiet life wouldn’t last, however. Crimson’s second attack that forced the clan from their home pushed her from myth to reality, as she too flew among the leaving dragons. Once the clan relocated to the Hewn City, she quickly went back into hiding, but her presence had been made known. Some dragons voiced their displeasure at the fact that someone who might as well have been a stranger had been living in and watching from the walls, while others disliked that an entire dragon had been kept hidden from them for years.
The judging looks only further pushed her back into the shadows of the clan; it was clear, to her at least, that she wasn’t entirely welcomed by many in the clan. Of course, she continued to help in the little ways she could, it was in her very nature, but she just couldn’t face them.
When odd magic started to crop up, she was among the first to notice. She’d spent her whole life observing, and to her, it was laughably easy to tell that something was wrong. She didn’t quite know what, but the uneasy feeling settled in the pit of her stomach as she watched others, including Sunset, change in subtle ways.
Dammerung had noticed this too, and kept her company when he could. But suddenly, his visits stopped; he’d gone missing. In fear, she sneaked away from the clan in an attempt to find him, only to be confronted by what appeared to be a wingless, horrifically-changed skydancer. It snatched her in its jaws, and as she struggled in its grip, it let go with a shriek. A cloaked figure stood over her, and their eyes glowed a faint silver under their hood.
“You’re... different,” they’d said. “Come with me.”
And she followed, because what other choice was there?
The figure revealed themselves to be Wren, the missing daughter of Sunset and Flechte. Fizz had seen her before, had watched her hatching, had looked on when the distraught coatl fled into the ruins. And now, that very coatl saved her life, and looking far different than she had when Fizz had last seen her. Her colors were warped, her body changed and only vaguely resembling a coatl in appearance. It’d been the Shade, Wren had said, something that initially had Fizz panicking and ready to flee.
But Wren had saved her, so perhaps she’d evaded the Shade? After all, Zenturio had done just that.
The true answer sent her reeling. Wren manipulated the Shade, but it didn’t harm her or twist her; rather, it fell to her command, an ability she’d sensed in Fizz. Something she’d said she could train Fizz in. An offer than Fizz accepted.
It wasn’t an easy process. The Shade warped her colors into something pale and patchy, dark markings etching their way across their scales. An accident with a scroll changed her into a spiral, and from there, her form only changed more as she channeled the Shade to her liking.
She and Wren would eventually act as “guardian angels” to the clan, watching as the dragons divided and tore themselves apart, doing what they could to keep the creatures of the ruins from coming and making the situation worse, to guide lost dragons back.
Really, it was inevitable, the day they watched the two halves of the clan fight an all-out battle. The day they watched the dragons who hadn’t fallen under the Shade’s influence fail their coup, watched those dragons leave, watched as others were imprisoned. They would’ve left, really. But those prisoners needed someone to watch over them, and Wren wouldn’t leave her father.
So they stayed, merely watching from the shadows until, years later, the day came that changed it all. When an old allied clan brought help to Vrensai, and purged the clan of the Shade. It wasn’t an easy battle, and it took Wren’s life as the coatl defended her father’s prison from the Shade-touched with tooth and claw. But it was won. The Shade here was purged.
That is, except for what still lived within Fizz, hidden and controlled.
When the clan followed the Keepers’ path, Fizz followed. The caves Eiszapfen had brought them to before were a comforting sight to her; she could easily hide away again.
However, she never got that chance. Eizapfen and Axolotl were, of course, horrified by what had happened to their adoptive daughter, but oh so grateful, thank the deities, that she’d come home. She wasn’t able to stow away in nooks and crannies with them over her shoulder, watching her like she’d disappear all over again. They wanted to see her, for her to really see the clan, for her to really live among them.
She nearly refused, nearly slipped away to hide again. Nearly. But she couldn’t break their hearts again, not after everything. So she agreed, under the condition that no, she wouldn’t be forced into the throng of dragons, scrutinised by them all.
They agreed, of course, anything that meant they could make sure she was safe.
Now, she acts as a cave sentinel, keeping watch over the caves in the furthest reaches of the occupied areas of the system. The dark, unknown depths hold something, she can feel it, but for now, she’s mostly content to make sure nothing crawls up from deep in the earth.
Which of your dragons would fit the phrases "omnia iam fient quae posse negabam" and "trahimir omnes laudis studio"?
omnia iam fient quae posse negabam - everything which I used to say could not happen, will happen now
Fizz - she grew up hiding in caves, afraid of everything. she was so unknown and hidden that most of the clan believed she was just a ghost, perhaps a lost child of Eiszapfen and Axolotl’s. she thought she’d live her whole life in the cracks of the clan’s old lair, that she’d live in fear but, at least, safe and taken care of by her adoptive parents and friend. never did she think that would change. but now, she’s not only not living in the caves, she’s not afraid anymore. she can hold her own in a fight, again Shade-touched creatures of all things. her body and colors have changed, and now the rest of the clan knows of her existence. she wonders how much more will change from being impossible, to becoming a certainty.
trahimir omnes laudis studio - we are led on by our eagerness for praise
HalaH - LayaL’s approval means everything to her. she grew up neglected as a child, and for a time was nothing more than a lowly servant. when LayaL, the king of her kingdom chose her of all dragons to be his personal servant and concubine, she fully devoted herself to him, eager to please him and make him happy. she didn’t want to waste this chance she’d gotten. even now, after his kingdom was taken and through his new Search for his lost Charge, she’s stayed with him, drinking his praise like ambrosia.
