Caught in the Rain (flashback) || Clover & Raine

It was not the first date they had imagined, it had definitely been better. And they couldn’t remember the last time they’d had such a great time with another human being. Without weed, mind you. Raine had offered to walk Clover home, it was night already, and their car was parked all the way on the other side of the town. No worries, none whatsoever, they didn’t care for every moment they could still be in her company was a money worth. 

And then it started to rain. Raine looked up with slight confusion at the first drops, but before they knew it, it had started to pour. They quickly grabbed Clover’s arm and pulled her under the leavy arms of a huge tree. Surprised at how it gave them so cover. They looked back at Clover and grinned. “Sorry, should’ve warned you,” they pointed at the sky, “comes with the name.”

“Accept a kind act without suspicion, will you?” The girl tipped her head to the side with a slight smirk. “Besides, I thought you could use it. If you fall through the railing at the chasm... It’s because you’re too skinny.” Was there an ulterior motive? Most likely. The Candor turned Dauntless had been around the likes of Zeke for too long in the control room. Which may have also reminded her of another tidbit of information she omitted from the other Dauntless man.

“Also, I stole it from Zeke, but, he stole it from Tori first... Sooo, uh, you might want to eat that quick before one of them comes looking. I already ate my part. If we destroy the evidence, we’re innocent. That’s how it works.”

Showdown || Raine & Clover & Hutch

Location: Hutch’s office Time: nov 10 @oxdendine

Raine walked in after hiding away a cigarette bud in the grass somewhere outside of Hutch’ office. They didn’t care for knocking, or even sending Hutch a message prior to let him know they were there. After all, it was Hutch who invited them over. 

They sat down in the waiting room, one leg over the other, playing with the cuff of their pants, pulling on the loose thread. Most, if not all, of their clothing was second hand, and living in a house with so many others, Raine sometimes wondered if they were wearing their own pants or somebody else’s. 

When they heard the door open again, Raine didn’t look up right away. “Hutch? You better have good reason for calling me here, I told my boss it was an emergency,” they called, then when they had pulled a thread loose, finally shifted their gaze to the door, only to quickly let it fall back on their feet. Of all people, they had not expected for Clover to walk in. Or maybe they should’ve expected that.

Raine thought about lighting the joint, it wasn’t that they were eager to have some weed, they were never really. It was just a way to pass the time together with this hopeless bunch, and they had gotten used to their company. But they were staring, and not just with their eyes, but their whole body was anticipating this arrival of the new girl to their group. They nodded along with the story the guy on the left told, but his gaze always sought out her long darkbrown hair, almost black in the shade of the school building. Their heart ached every time he caught her smiling. What he would not do to talk with her. 

If the other stoners saw them watching her so carefully, they did not comment on it, but Raine knew they had been here for too long already, so chances were they had in fact not noticed at all. He was glad, for the first time in a while, for not being stoned out of his mind on this occasion. 

She was gorgeous, but the type of gorgeous that often went unappreciated. Their sibling would tell them that this was their type, if Raine really had a type. They would ask them what they meant, and a moment would pass between the two of them, before Raine would pull away shaking his head. Type, sure. 

Then the guy on his left stood to talk to someone else, and he saw Clover (or Ox as the others had called her) walk over to him, and his heart beat loudly. If he had a type, it was definitely her.

Pose to Pose || Clover & Raine

They wanted to ignore the fast beating of their heart, they wanted to pretend it was something other than excitement. They wanted to pretend that they didn’t want to walk up to her and put their arms around her like they used to. That they didn’t ache for her to put her head against his collarbone again, like she used to. They hoped there was enough rage left in them to ignore the feeling of putting his lips against hers. See if they still tasted the same. 

Instead he wiped his hands on the towel outside, and walked up to her as if nothing was the matter. But with every step that rage mixed with love grew louder. 

“Chef can’t take them, so how much does he owe you?” Raine asked, reaching for his wallet under the greasy clothing. They avoided having to look her in the eyes. @oxdendine​

Escape || Clover & Raine

Location: outside of Ugly Mug Cafe Time: 27 nov @oxdendine

Raine had been on his way back to the house when the message from Clover came in. They had turned the car around right away, driving into the centre of the town. They stank, work had been... heavy today, too much people wanting their cars fixed before the winter. Still, they felt every part of their body vibrate towards being there for Clover. Not just because she was his girlfriend, but because they still feared, deep down, that they needed to prove to her that they were here for her.

There was an empty spot in front of the Cafe. As they parked, they took out their phone to send Clover the message. 

[ to -> Four ] I am outside. 

Then dropped their phone on the dashboard and scanned the large windows for a glimpse of her.
