After all those months on the street, Zhyan didn’t think he could feel even worse. But his body was weak and felt feverish without Magic, he had never been without it, but he recognised the feeling not as something wrong, but something along the lines of not sleeping for a week. He had been giving the chance to clean himself, there had been blood on his hands and the side of his face for some reason. He was given food, warm clothing to wear, a bed, sadly in the same room as Laurel, and people had come by to check in on him.
With all the hours that passed, Zhyan felt more and more certain that it was gone. The Spirit was no longer there. Normally it would spike, just a little bit, when he was around Laurel. But it didn’t, and something about it felt final. He tried to make sense of it, if only to keep his mind busy in the hours between sleep. Maybe the Spirit had been attached to his Magic, used his own strength for its Magic, because he couldn’t use it himself.
He looked to the other bed, which he had been doing several times over the last few hours. Laurel seemed awake. Zhyan sat up, carefully.
“Laurel, are you awake?”
