We’ll Never Be Satisfied || Basil and Summer
Summer was exhausted from the fighting in the Rebel Base. She’d used her powers almost to the end of her strength, and so, despite her protests, she’d been sent back to the base to regain her strength before she could go back into the field. The last thing she wanted was to see her fathers, worried they’d prohibit her from returning to the fight even once she was good to go again. This wasn’t the time for their protectiveness, in her mind.
So instead of the labs, she found herself wandering down to the prison cells, now fuller than ever with captured rebels. Summer looked over them with indifference, ignoring the complaints coming from them. Then she saw a familiar face.
Lying on the ground, unconscious, was Basil. Her friend, or so she’d thought. Without thinking, she rushed closer. A technician approached her, confused by what she was doing. “What’s he doing there?” she asked, confused.
“Basil Chase,” the technician read. “Aged 19, he was a guard with the rebel army. Agent Valentine says he was a bitch to capture. He has something called... fear manipulation. Glad we got a chip in 'im, cant do anything to us from in there." Summer couldn’t believe what she was hearing.
“There has to be a mistake. He’s not a rebel, he can’t be. Let me talk to him. Get it cleared up.” The tech sighed, clearly not believing her, but not wanting to argue. He kicked the cage to wake up the kid and Summer watched, feeling more on edge than she could remember feeling in a long time.
The thought of Basil being a rebel seemed... impossible to her. He couldn’t.
