“Did you not hear?” Kara asked, raising her brow at Connor as she went to the fridge, grabbing the first bottle she saw and inspecting it before deeming it acceptable. Honestly, she didn’t care what it was, whether it was cheap or expensive wine––she just needed to drink. “Summer wanted to join the Nephilim because she thinks she’s a superior being to humans just like they are. That’s the Spark Notes version.” She took a glass from Connor and wasted no time in pouring herself a glass….maybe a little bit more than necessary. 

She was just taking a seat with her glass and some of the food when Summer walked in, and she honestly had the strongest urge to start an argument with the other blonde. She bit her tongue, knowing full well that if she said anything it wouldn’t go well, and she wouldn’t be able to stop from going into a full blown rant. 

“Connor, babe, would you like to comment on this?” she asked sweetly, gulping down a huge sip of wine.

At the mention of the Nephilim, Connor’s mind immediately flashed to Jim, knowing how persuasive he was when it came to recruiting. He could only imagine how persuasive the others were. “Shit,” Connor said with a sigh, not really knowing how they were going to get Summer to unjoin the Nephilim. He grabbed himself a beer, figuring that the more alcohol, the better.

When Summer appeared, Connor just sighed and leaned against the counter, already looking like a disappointed parent. “Summer, ya gonna get yourself captured or killed if ya keep goin’ on like that. Ya can’t go ‘round fuckin’ people up jus’ ‘cause they annoy you.”

The sight of Kara pointedly staying quiet while she drank wine, and Connor leaning over the bench like a disappointed dad (Summer had memories of Sal doing a similar thing after she’d done something wrong as a little girl) did not warm Summer to the conversation. Nor did Connor’s remarks. “I’d like to see them try,” she snapped. “And besides, he wasn’t annoying me, he was spouting all kinds of shit about metas going to hell and humans being superior. Even Lucien knew metas were the future, even if he believed he had to remove flaws from them first. I tried to be nice, but he wouldn’t listen. I gave him plenty of warning to shut it.”

“Just making sure.“With all the chaos, it’d be easy for the Rebels or the Nephilim to cause trouble.” Harper explained. Her eyes narrowed in annoyance at the meta, and she straightened up in anticipation. “Your wrist looks fine. But keep giving me sass, and I’ll give you something to worry about.”

Summer rolled her eyes. “Shouldn’t CARMA be prepared for that? Not worrying about someone on their bike?” It was hard to bite her tongue, her tiredness and annoyance getting the better of her. “It feels sprained,” she snapped. “Alright? Just let me go home.”

Harper allowed herself to relax just a smidge when the girl didn’t argue back. She was tired of dealing with snarky metas and self-righteous humans, and no back talk meant that hopefully, the girl wouldn’t be any trouble. Harper glanced down at the ID, then to the other’s registration tattoo, nodding in confirmation. “Alright,” she said, handing the card back. “Where are you headed?”

“Home? Why does that matter, it’s not like there’s a curfew or anything. I go here, I had class.” Summer couldn’t help the sass. No matter how hard her parents tried to tell her, it seemed to be as much a part of her as her powers. Both of which she jokingly blamed on her biological parents. “Is there a problem? I’d like to go home and get my wrist looked at.”

It was a busy day just like any other, and Deidra still had a full agenda despite it being the afternoon already.  She had no time or patience for the protest whatever ridiculous social or political group had scrounged together this time.  Time was money, and the coffee break had taken longer than she’d planned for it to thanks to some incompetent barista on their first day on the job.  Dee was only a block or so away from her LaReaux Industries, and picked up her pace if only to get back quicker.

She was always aware of her surroundings no matter how stressed she got, but even then she barely had time to change her skin to diamond-hard crystalline armor before the girl and her bike plowed into her.  It didn’t hurt her or mess up her clothes when she fell, but her coffee was split all down the front of her.

“Son of a bitch.”  Deidra stood carefully to her feet and let her armored skin recede, even though it meant the coffee made its way onto her clothes underneath.  “Great, this is just perfect.  Do you know how much this attire cost?” she demanded in an increasingly Irish brogue of the fallen girl as she smoothed down her hair.  “Far more than the cup of coffee that is now staining the blouse, but not near as much money as the time that this little accident is costing me.”

Summer was doing a mental check of herself, groaning as she realised her jeans were ripped and her wrist ached in a way that said she’d sprained it. But just as she was slowly getting to her feet and trying to work out how she was going to ride home one-handed, she heard the woman. The selfish and shallow complaints made Summer’s expression turn confused. “Excuse me?” she replied, incredulous. A breeze picked up around her in response to her defensive mood.

“The street was closed down, or hadn’t you noticed the huge fucking protest?” Harper snapped just as quickly. Mentally, she did a quick assessment of damage; she was unhurt, and the girl seemed only a little bruised. Nothing that would need medical attention. With the immediate threat out of the way, she moved on to her next task. “I’m gonna need to see some registration, please.”

Summer rolled her eyes, but didn’t argue. She knew her rights, and she knew she was still allowed to ride her bike on campus despite the protest. But her parents had taught her not to argue, especially not with people in uniform, as she just noticed the young woman was wearing. She was a meta, she couldn’t risk CARMA thinking she was a threat. “Right. Yeah.” Summer slung her backpack down to pull out her wallet. “Here,” she said, showing her I.D. which announced she was meta and pulling up her sleeve to show her registration tattoo.

It was hard enough juggling, work, school, and working with the Rebels but the constant on campus protests seemed to add that extra factor of annoyance to Kelli’s day to day life. Today they just had to be in her way after she was let out for the day and trying to head back to base. She managed to push past them all but ended up in a collision with another student on her bike which knocked them both down.

“Oh crap are you okay?” Kelli asked and rushed to help the other girl up. “Sorry. I wasn’t watching where I was going. It’s hard to see with all these people.”

Summer looked up from where she’d fallen. She wasn’t too badly hurt, just shaken really. She hadn’t fallen off her bike since she was five and just took the training wheels off. “I’m fine, I’m fine.” She shook her head, getting up herself. “Yeah, I know. Sorry for not braking in time.” Not that she’d had time, but it seemed polite to say.

Kara was walking home from work, the office only a few blocks away from the apartment so it saved her money to not drive back and forth everyday. The only problem was that today there were some protests––clearly something about Metahumans since that seemed to be the public’s hot topic of debate lately. She avoided such protests, not wanting to get herself in trouble somehow. 

She was buried in her phone as she walked so none of the protestors could bother her if they were reaching out to passersby. She didn’t see the girl on the bike coming, and she let out a sharp gasp when she was hit, followed by a grunt as she landed on the ground. A quick mental checkover confirmed that she was all right, although she’d definitely have some bruising and a few scrapes left over. She turned her head to the other girl on the ground, sitting up with a low groan. “Ah shit. Hey, are you all right there?”  

Summer groaned as she tried to pick herself up off the ground. Pain radiated up her wrist in particular and when she tried to put weight on it to get up, she gasped in pain. “Fuck,” she managed, cradling it against her chest. It had to be sprained or something. Great. Now how was she going to get her bike home? “Huh?” she said, glancing up as she realised the other woman was talking to her. “Just fine,” she muttered. “Are you?”

Another day, another protest. These days, it seemed like demonstrations were cropping up everywhere. All Harper really wanted was a proper fight, but until the protesters started something, she just had to sit back and monitor the crowd. As she patrolled the edge of the protest, she ended up stepping into the path of a biker and was knocked backwards. Harper sat up, rubbing her head where it had slammed against the handlebars. “Jeez, you ever learn how to steer?”

"Hey, don't blame me. Ever learned to look before you step out?" Summer shot back. She had been about to apologise but the girl's snarky reaction made her defensive and sharp. "I'm on the road, I had right of way." She picked herself up from where she'd fallen, inspecting herself as she did. Her palms were grazed but she was otherwise just a bit bruised. Fine, in other words. Her wrists ached from where she’d landed on them though. Her bike seemed okay when she picked it up too, thankfully. There was a scratch to the paint but that seemed to be it. Summer still tutted when she saw it, more annoyed because of the reaction than the actual damage.

“It’s definitely more than nice, it beats France on so many levels.” He pointed out, getting defensive over what he considered his true home. It was more the idea of being a European that spoke to him, rather than actually preferring Italy over everything else. And he was possessive of that. Sandro watched the people being tossed away like they were a mere plastic bag; weightless and insignificant to her storm. “You’re welcome.” Alessandro added with a smug expression. Fuck if he was like Ando from Heroes, a mere power booster. “That’s what I do. The anger’s all yours, but I’m in control over the dimmer.”

“Don’t get ahead of yourself. It’s nice, but it is no France,” Summer said, her accent coming out thicker as she defended her home. Especially from someone who could only claim he had family there, not having grown up there. The victims of Summer’s winds were picking themselves up, looking around scared. Summer ignored them. “I don’t know what to do with that anger. “

Point is, I’m here now.” Marcy landed next to the girl, her own gun pointed at the agents. “Tell you what,” She called. “I’ll give you one chance to turn around and leave. There might be more of you, but do you really want to test your odds against two metas?” In the back of her head, Marcy realized what a terrible idea this had been; trouble with CARMA was the last thing she needed. But it was too late now, so she cocked her gun and gave the agents her most dazzling smile. 

Summer rolled her eyes and chuckled. “So you are.” Feeling more confident with the weapon in her hand, Summer stepped forward. “I reckon I could take you lot on myself. Are any of you lightning proof per chance?” she asked, making a rumbling cloud gather over her head. “With her here too? Well... it’s a piece of cake. Bye bye.” She watched as the agents glanced at each other before they stepped in to attack. “Wrong move.” A gale force wind made the agents stumble back as Summer shot one, then two of them in the leg. “Come on, ghostie,” she shouted as she used the wind to carry herself up into the air. “Let’s go.”

Slade’s expression darkened and he shook his head, the look on his face more saddened than anything.  “Miss Gaudet, there is no reason for this.  You have broken no laws that I know.”  Slade had a feeling this wasn’t going to end peacefully and adjusted his grip on his rifle.  “I won’t ask you again Miss Gaudet.  I have orders to bring you in willing or not.”

“Then why do you need to bring me in? If I haven’t broken any laws, what do you want with me?” Summer asked. She knew why, but she wanted to hear what CARMA told their agents. She didn’t want the sadness on Slade’s face, meeting his gaze with steely eyes. “I won’t tell you again. No. I quit.”

Meeting the Morningstar || Uriel & Summer

It was good to be home, even if his welcome back had been a fairly mixed bag of reactions.  In the long run it didn’t matter however.  Uriel would pull the council back together and haul them kicking and screaming if necessary.  As Uriel sat in his rooms he heard the storm begin to rage outside and he moved to his balcony doors, flinging them wide open against the wind and rain.  As he looked out over the grounds he saw a lone figure in the gardens, flinging lightning at a handful of items.  The woman intrigued Uriel and he stepped off his balcony, floating down to stand behind her.  Opening himself to the Aether he watched her for a moment before he spoke.  “Don’t hold so tightly onto your power.  Let it flow from you to your target.”

Summer turned around when she heard a voice. She noticed immediately that the man, if he could be called that, was different. He gave off an otherworldly air that was immediately noticeable, even in the stormy night. Summer couldn’t explain it, but the only word that came to her lips was a whispered, “Ange...” Angel. But he couldn’t be. She glanced up, saw the open doors from the balcony above them. “Who are you?” she asked.

It was definitely weird right now where Kara was. She was in Connor’s new apartment that he stayed in with his roommate, Aaliyah, helping him cook dinner for their technical daughter Summer to join them. She had just taken the food out of the oven while Connor was doing his thing when the news caught her attention. It was a live broadcasting of something happening downtown––just a few blocks away from the apartment, in fact. She stopped what she was doing and grabbed the remote off the counter, turning up the volume to listen. The woman reporting the situation obviously looked terrified, but what Kara saw in the background was Summer using her weather to hurt someone on the street. Her jaw tensed and she clenched her fist, trying not to get pissed off and spoil the mood tonight, but it was really fucking hard. 

“Connor, look,” she spoke up, pointing to the TV while she moved out of the way to get some of the food on the table. “Please tell me you have wine because I think it may be the only thing that will get me through this dinner right now.”

Ever since moving into his new apartment with Aaliyah, Connor and Kara had managed to see each other a lot more than before. Hell, they could finally spend the night together in a place that wasn’t a hotel room. Waiting for the food in the over to cook, Connor prepared the table, putting out place mats and cutlery before looking at the TV when Kara spoke. 

Immediately stopping what he was doing, Connor moved closer to the TV, standing beside Kara as he watched in complete disbelief at what he was seeing. “You ‘ave got to be fuckin’ kiddin’ me. The fuck’s got into her?” He asked, though it was mostly rhetorical. There was one thing for sure; the two of them were going to be having serious words with Summer when – or if – she eventually got there. Connor sighed, moving over to the cupboard with the wine glasses. “

In Summer’s defense, she hadn’t planned on causing chaos on the way to her dinner with Kara and Connor. Not when she knew what Kara’s opinion was of the Nephilim and Connor was still technically an agent. But when she heard someone spouting nonsense about how metas were scum and going to hell, she got angry. 

She’d called them out from atop their soapbox, daring them to call strike her down if she was such a demon. The man had spluttered, unaccustomed to being confronted by a lone meta. He’d quickly found his feet though and started shouting at her, telling her how she had to not use her powers and to act human to have a chance. Summer merely raised an eyebrow. “No?” she asked as he failed in her mind to even try to strike her where she stood. “My turn then.” And just like that, despite the clear day, lightning appeared from the sky, striking the man. He dropped to the ground. Around her, people screamed, making Summer roll her eyes. “He’s not dead. Yet.” He mightn’t die at all if he got care quick enough. It depended how his body reacted to the strike. It wasn’t a particularly powerful one, just enough to prove a point. Even a little lightning could hurt though.

Using wind to push people away, Summer flew away, ignoring the shouts and the sirens she left behind. Once she was a few blocks away, she let the wind drop, landing on the ground and walking the rest of the way. It wasn’t until she got to Connor’s apartment, however, and opened the door to see the news that she realised someone had got her on film.

Turning, she could see immediately that Kara and Connor both knew what had happened and did not approve in the slightest. “Oh come on. You should’ve heard him.”
