The way the sun gleaned over the reflecting pool reminded her of stained glass. Her breath shallowed and her pulse slowed when she got to be out of the shop, boots kicked off, her naked toes wiggling around in the new spring grass. The book in her lap had long been abandoned for the gallery of faces and symphony of voices around her - warm enough to warrant long lunchtime walks but not hot enough for swimming, the weather had lured many out to the park that afternoon. Evie intended to stay as long as she could. The parlor could survive without her for one day. Besides, it was her brother's turn to look after things. She wanted this time, like the water, to reflect.
She loved watching people. Everyone that walked by, she could imagine a story to go along with the way they walked, how they spoke, with whom they were enjoying the day. Each so singular, never to be repeated again for as long as time, and time forever. How lucky she thought they all must be to have found each other at this moment in time.
