It was finally here. After the months of waiting, Erica’s birthday trip had officially arrived. For River, it was a no brainer as to why he was so excited for it. He got to finally have a proper trip with his entire friend-group, visit Canada, and have his first much needed break this year after finishing all his exams and projects. And yet, the reason he was excited the most would always come back to Cleo Somers. Since she started “seeing” Matt a couple months ago, he had felt like something was off between them. He knew from his end that he was extremely hurt by it, watching the girl he loved be with someone else was never easy. Regardless of that, he never wanted anything to effect the strong friendship that they did had. He wanted her to be happy and if that was with Matt, who was he to get in between that? With that being said, he hoped this trip would be a good chance to have some personal time with her. For both of them to properly relax and enjoy one another’s company.
It hadn’t started off very well. The whole Uber ride to the airport had been quiet between the two of them, with Erica and Jack having to be the ones to carry conversation. He felt bad - he didn’t want to feel like this the entire trip. Not just for their sake but also for Erica’s. It was her birthday and he was extremely appreciative that she had practically covered all the costs for it. So, the least he could do was try to hype himself up and fix whatever tension there was between himself and Cleo. When they eventually arrived at the airport, he let Jack and Erica go through security first - hanging back with Cleo. “So, what’s your plan for the next four hours?” He broke the silence between them, undoing his belt and placing it in the TSA tray with the rest of his stuff. “I was thinking maybe we could watch a movie? I’ll let you choose.”
