When Cade had started working for the FBI, his life had become completely work focused. He’d always been work driven, sure, but he’d left small windows of time for other things throughout his army career. The second he hit the FBI academy, though, those hobbies all became a memory. The strongest of which had been his affinity for basketball, having played competitively all the way through college, continuing to mess around with it after that. He’d thought about returning to the game recreationally, perhaps even joining an intramural league, but then he’d always convinced himself there was no time. He had to devote nearly every waking moment to his work or to his investigation of his parents’ deaths.
However, something recently had shifted in him, just the slightest bit, making it more difficult for him to sleep. And since the insomnia caused him to have more hours in his days, he had decided to sneak away to the basketball court, thankful for twenty-four seven gym access. Besides, he figured he would be alone at this hour, able to just dribble the ball around some in lieu of his regular workout. The endorphin rush of the familiar game had completely taken him over, though, and he got sucked in as he played by himself, memories fueling his movements. So caught up in it that the incredibly perceptive man had not initially noticed someone else entering the room, until he was able to hear the footsteps more loudly, whipping around behind him. “What are you doing here?” he asked, his defensive guard immediately snapping back into place.
