Between them, Lucky and Cassia had done fairly well in terms of food. Mare had kept Lucky steadily supplied with fruits from the outside, and Cassia had gone on an expedition to find pretzels. But none of that was especially substantial, and Lucky’s stomach was growling.
“I’m cravin’ chicken,” she decided as they made their way up to the third floor. “If they have chicken, I can die happy.”
Up ahead, a head of red hair caught Lucky’s attention. She shot Cassia a look.
“Hey, Pixie,” she called out tentatively. “You alright up there?”
Under her breath, she added softly for Cassia’s benefit, “I know the lil District Three girl. She’s just sweet as pie.”
