reunited and it don’t feel good || an arwen and viola drabble
The shop has been quiet today, an unusual occurrence admittedly, and Viola can only rearrange the display items so many times before she will lose her mind. If she’s honest with herself, and Viola is trying desperately to be honest with herself more, she would admit that she didn’t expect this store to ever be as busy as it usually is.
The bell rings and the world stops spinning.
Seeing her again is what Viola imagines being hit by a very large truck feels like. Her breath is ripped from her lungs and she can’t seem to look away. Viola would laugh at the expression on Arwen’s face, the same sort of horrified realization playing across her face.
In the drawn-out silence, Viola takes in her sister. She looks so much better than the last time she saw her. Her eyes are their usual mischievous grey, not the angry red that’s haunted Viola’s memories. She’s still just as small as she’s always been, but confidence looks good on Arwen and she fills the room. It’s like seeing an old friend and a total stranger at once.
Arwen seems to be taking her in, too, until she pieces together that her long lost older sister is obviously here to ruin the happiness she’s created for herself. Arwen starts to shrink into herself, the light dulling in her eyes, as she becomes poised for the attack.
“Arwen,” she starts, her voice weaker than she wants it to be.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” Arwen demanded, cutting her off.
Viola looks around almost desperately. The coworker she’d been laughing with only moments before is looking at her wearily. The boy who trailed in after Arwen seems ready to go to battle on her sister’s behalf. “I work here,” she answers after a beat. “I... I live here now.”
“Jesus fuck, Lala, was putting an ocean between us not enough of a hint?” Arwen demanded, the childhood nickname slipping off her tongue most likely without her even realizing it.
Viola sucked in a breath when she hears it. “I just... Arwen, can we go someplace and talk? Please? I promise it won’t be long,” she asked, taking a step closer.
Arwen stepped back. “I’m not going anywhere with you!” she snapped. “I don’t owe you a single fucking thing.”
She flinched at that. “You’re right,” she agreed. “You don’t owe me anything, but I owe you so many things. I owe you more apologies than I can even say. Please, Arwen, please. Just a few minutes.”
Arwen just shook her head and reached up to cover her ears like she used to do when they were children. Viola reached for her, wanting to offer any comfort she could, but Arwen’s knight got there first. He wrapped his hands around her shoulders and turned her towards him, whispering questions only Arwen could hear. Her sister nodded at something he said and half turned back towards her.
“I don’t care what you have to say to me. I’m done with you, Viola. I’m done with all of you. I have nothing left to say.” Her tone was final and the steel in her shoulders told Viola she wouldn’t get through to her anytime soon.
Viola nodded, wrapping her arms around herself and squaring her shoulders. She wouldn’t fall apart here. “I’m not going anywhere, Arwen. If you ever need anything, anything at all, I’m right here.”
She narrowed her eyes. “Bit too late for that, isn’t it?”
“I only meant,-”
“I know exactly what you meant. Are they here too? Gonna have a jolly little family reunion?”
“No, god, no I wouldn’t...” she stopped. Because she would. She absolutely would have done that to her this time last year. Why would Arwen think any different of her now?
Her sister seemed to be thinking the same thing. “Right. You wouldn’t. Just like you wouldn’t do all the other things you’ve done and blamed me for, right? Why should this time be any different.”
“It is different. Arwen, please, I’m different. I’m not the same anymore. Please, if you would only let me explain!” Viola begged.
“You know what?” Arwen said suddenly, stopping Viola in her tracks. “Why don’t you just fuck off and leave me alone? How about that?”
Arwen turns on her heel and leaves. The world starts spinning again but only barely. Viola can’t tell. She has the distinct feeling she’s just been hit by a truck.
“Stop,” breathed he, “Please don’t do this. Not again.” During those decades, those lives they’ve lived through there were always soft moments even after they broke up. Drake scratched his head, nervously, and jaw clenching once he looked at her—just one glance for his heart to fill up with acid. “I doubt that’s a luxury either of us can afford.”
He cleared his throat, and pushed the bottle of beer away. It wasn’t tempting, not anymore, and the whiskey further away was something he knew could have helped—to numb, or to something he’d regret later. “Move on, that’s all you can do.”
It pained him to say this, for he still festered feelings for the woman in front of him with blond curls and strong jaw; with cheekbones as sharp as her tongue, and pink lips to mask it. But he wanted to be happy, at least one of them would be. Free. He couldn’t even imagine that kind of heaven — perhaps simply because it was no heaven, not for him, at all. “Maybe that’s the only way to get rid of me. Move on. Break the cycle. Rest in peace.”
Drake looked at her again, gaze lingering for a longer time now, and his breathing became shallow and silent, almost not there. Part of him wanted to get up and go right now, but another — to make her stay, even for a minute, even if just a little more.
for the ship meme do Salt mates pls only one because they are long.
sent me a ship and i will tell you who:
{drake x viola}
who is more likely to hurt the other? Probably Viola, knowing that Drake wouldn’t be able to and would rather let her hurt him than the other way around.who is emotionally stronger? During the years they’ve lived through, I’d say they both are pretty tough.who is physically stronger? Drake, I would think ? ?who is more likely to break a bone? Since they’ve been trained and been through a lot, doubtfully either one of them is that clumsy.who knows best what to say to upset the other? Both. They’ve been around each other for so long, and been through good and bad and middle grounds, and are pretty much open books to each other - they’ve shared most of their existence, so really, both.who is most likely to apologize first after an argument? Drake, typically. I think everything changed a lot after the last argument, so wouldn’t say either would apologize now. But..Drake, nonetheless. who treats who’s wounds more often? Viola treats Drake’s? On good days, at least.who is in constant need of comfort? Neither? ??who gets more jealous? I can see both of them being pretty jealous, no matter they ended things a long time ago.who’s most likely to walk out on the other? Viola would walk out on Drake if we fucked up, and I think he’s a little more attached to her and wouldn’t be able to.who will propose? Drake, hopefully, someday, lmao.who has the most difficult parents? Neither of them have any parents left, but! Viola? Maybe.who initiates hand-holding when they’re out in public? I’d say Viola, but I think both.who hogs the blankets? Viola, definitely.who gets more sad? Drake, even though I don’t think he shows it, ever.who is better at cheering the other up? Still Drake? Or at least he tries to.who’s the one that playfully slaps the other all the time after they make silly jokes? Viola slaps drake. Playfully or not lmao.who is more streetwise? Drake.who is more wise? Viola.who’s the shyest? Neither ? ? ?? ?who boasts about the other more? Drake would boast about her all the time when they were together, without even hiding it.who sits on who’s lap? Viola on Drake’s. Sometimes Drake on Viola.
I’D RATHER DIE MY WAY THAN LIVE YOURS. (Salt mates)
“Really?”
Drake raised his brows up, not a drop of fondness in his sharp features, “Because the last time I remember, you die — I die, yeah?” He pressed out a bitter laughter, shook his head only so slightly and licked the lower lip. “You can be dramatic all you want, but my word is the last on this one, until we get out. And if it makes you feel any better,” he leaned in, voice turning into menacing whisper, “I’ too, would rather die any day than be in one room with you.”
Will was worried. Ingrid was with their mother and grandparents. He was heading back home from work when he saw a terrifyingly familiar figure in the distance turning down an alley. Swallowing his fear, Will followed, watching as the figure stopped. “Viola.” He practically growled.
