whenever i write hyp and than with someone in an au where they're not gods but merely personifications and thus don't have the support structure of family around them, i'm always hesitant to include the fact that they're hella suicidal i feel like my partners will react negatively to it but i mean. they just want to die so bad. hyp went through a period where he'd jump off tall things or drown himself and then get mad when the only reason thanny showed up was to scrape him off the pavement before the humans did theyre so bored but i always get afraid to include that in my writing in case my partner thinks im bored with /them/ or something
i guess i never put this into writing anywhere so i wanted to put it down so i at least have it somewhere
just some character stuff
thanny and hyp used to be one being, like. share a mind. always had separate bodies but they were basically the same person, and they lived like that for however long it took the gods other than the chaotic titans to come into existence
and they blame the gods for splitting them but it was pretty much mix of human conception of them and their own growing awareness of themselves that did it (but they wouldn’t ever think about that bc they consider the split into being two people the worst thing that has ever occurred in their lifetimes)
but because of their origin as the same being, they basically consider themselves the same person still
they’re used to using separate language for each other by now but in their minds? the difference is minimal
so hypnos got all the outgoing part of their personality + plus the people skills (his ability to charm is basically a reference to the fact that sleep is seductive and creeps up on you and you want it sooooo bad)
and thanny as ‘the inevitable end’ is quiet and resolute and the protector. the protector part actually developed from hypnos doing stupid stuff to the other gods and getting in trouble and thanny realized that if he was in their way, they couldn’t do anything bc they wouldn’t do anything to disturb the natural balance, of which he was an integral part.
he doesn’t realize it bc hypnos naturally lets him take the lead so he assumed he took their assertiveness and protectiveness from him, but its a portion of his personality he developed on his own,
if you ask thanatos if he loves his brother he’d say no
bc he doesn’t care for himself, doesn’t like his personality or self all that much, and that means that he doesn’t love hypnos bc hypnos is him
but he acknowledges that he needs him bc losing him would be like losing half his functions and plus he really really really fucking loves his brother but doesn’t think he does
and hypnos would absolutely say he loves his brother bc hypnos is vain as fuck and of course he loves himself, what are you talking about
(in an au where they’re not connected to the greek pantheon and they’re just the personifications of sleep and death wandering around, thanny never developed the courage to step in front of someone and while he’s strong, without his family connections and the other gods, he never became the protector. never needed to, could just duck behind hypnos and let him handle it. he developed selective mutism and never talks to anyone but hypnos, and sometimes hypnos thinks he’s lost the ability entirely cause he’ll go years without a single word and then like after a decade say a few things out of the blue one day and then go back to silence. he’s fluent in all forms of sign language and they talk that way. boys live on the street, just wandering with a huge death wish honestly. they’re bored and don’t know what they are and just want to be done with the world)
