Severus was not looking forward to what had to happen next. Another mistake. Another apology. And he had a history of those not going over very well. The last few days had been just plain awful; it was hard enough to avoid someone you shared a dormitory with, and worse because Sev knew it was his own damn fault. Kieren had been having a shit time, and instead of being a decent friend and supporting him, Sev had gone and lost his temper.
He’d still gone to the stupid Halloween party, but had spend the majority of his time glowering and avoiding K while wanting to actually go over and spent time with him like he normally would. But watching K arrive in a matching costume with Andromeda had put an extra nail in the coffin of that thought.
And why? Because these stupid, pointless feelings he'd been spending so much time either ignoring or actively pressing down on. Well all that was doomed from the start engagement or no engagement, so Severus might as well steel himself to at least try and salvage the friendship that was most important to him.
Being married wouldn’t really change much of anything. But when Kieren had settled into the vaunted role of pureblooded patriarch, what use could he possible have to spend time with a scruffy halfblood? Severus shook himself, casting off as much of the self-pity as he could.
It's not about you He scolded himself, as he ascended the stairs to the 6th year dorm. You're going to go in there, apologize, and then get over it.
Pushing open the door, Severus looked up just long enough to see that Kieren was alone before dropping his eyes back to the floor. He fiddled nervously with the fake vampire teeth still in his pocket, unable to keep his hands still.
“Hey. You have a second?”
