Two of Clemonte’s men had come to ‘check’ on Jason and his progress, his club, his relationship with the police, whether or not the money that was stolen from him had been made back yet. The two day visit had gone tremendously well considering all bases were covered, his ability for shmoozing still immaculate in presentation, and the last few hours spent together before their flight left JFK was cause for celebration. He had chosen a new hot spot, The Kitchen in Westbrook, for wholesome food and drinks to send them on their way happy and with good things to say to Bobby. The place was nothing special–– a big deal for Lanford, a restaurant surely meant to stand the test of time in a town that small, but in New York? Wouldn’t have lasted a year. Or so he thought at first glance.
When his order arrived, however, the spinach ricotta agnolotti, and the duck confit to share among the three men was finally tasted, he was dead wrong. The pasta was up there with the best they had ever had and the duck cooked to pure perfection, and the worldly men he shared it with were too impressed to stop eating to say words, practically cleaning their plates clean when the meal had come to its end. An opportunity presented itself–– Jason hailed over the waitress and demanded to speak to the chef, an action that impressed Clemonte’s goons and gave him a chance to see what surely was an overweight old man who put Lanford on the map, culinary wise, and who could potentially aid him in future endeavours when these men came to town next. But when the waitress emerged with the chef responsible, that was no overweight old man in her tow.
