¿Cómo se dice “turkey”?
So there are three words you'll hear in West Texas, Southern New Mexico, and Chihuahua (and I'm willing to bet down in Laredo-Nuevo Laredo, too) for "turkey". As a friend (and former student) from Cd. Chihuahua explained, pavo (standard Spanish) is what you eat, guajolote (from Nahuatl huexólotl "big monster") is what you pet, but cócono (possibly from Classical Nahuatl cōconeh "children", particularly for turkey poults) is mostly used among Spanish-speakers on the US-side of the border.
