It wasn't something Dean could let himself into easily: Letting himself being held, being protected, being... loved.

But with all the times he had to see Castiel go, be it him leaving the bunker because of some stupid shit Dean said, hurting him, using the one closest to him as an outlet for his undirected frustration and anger; or Castiel flat out dying, sacrificing himself for what they were fighting for, all of them together – trying to please Dean one last time. He had enough of that and his pathetic delusional ass, telling himself he is fine, he can handle Cas being gone. So it took some time until Dean didn't stiff up and awkwardly half melt into and simultaneously already pull away from Castiel's embraces anymore, a lifetime spent worrying about how he may could be perceived by others. But with Cas being there, a solid weight of heavenly reassurance, he reminded himself of all the times he had to let go and suddenly felt the urge to pull him closer, cl o s e r, 𝘧𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘩 – until there was no single force in the universe left able to separate the two of them. Ever again.
