"You're not honest with yourself at all, are you?"

It pisses her off. It's not like Annie's the only one to do so, and in some ways, the other girl is remarkably honest - her blunt nature and cynicism have always seemed genuine enough, and Ymir gets the impression that she's not the type to lie to herself a lot.

Yet there's still something there... an impression Ymir gets - telling her there's something that Annie won't admit to herself. Just like Ymir. And just like everyone else on this planet everyone calls home... humans just can't escape their own natures, huh?

"Eh, forget it." It's not like Ymir to dismiss her own criticism like that, but for whatever reason, today she lets it go. "I just wish I could figure out what you're thinking..."

"Isn't there anyone you trust?"

Ymir throws out the question almost offhandedly, yet there's a pointed edge to it nonetheless. She's not trying to question or judge Annie, in spite of how her tone makes her sound... it's just that, to Ymir, picking people apart and trying to press their buttons is - how to put it - just how she communicates.

Though, in fairness, Annie has always stood out to Ymir more than some of her other fellow cadets. Sometimes, it's hard to tell if that standoffish attitude of hers is something that rubs Ymir the wrong way, or if she respects it.

"I'm just saying. It sounds pretty exhausting, living like that."

Ymir knows all about Captain Levi, of course. Who doesn't? It's funny - violent, rude and powerful, he's the kind of guy who could easily choose to live his life for whoever he wants. But instead, he chooses to dedicate himself to the Survey Corps - fighting for humanity, whatever that might mean.

No wonder Ymir gets frustrated when she thinks about him. Well, maybe frustrated isn't the right word... seeing someone making the same mistakes that she used to make is one thing, but Paradis is full of people like that - and it's not like she has the right to judge him for how he lives his life. No, the frustration she feels now... maybe it's more to do with the current situation - and her fear of being caught out by this man, who she's sure is much sharper than most people think.

"It's an honor, really." she says with a smirk, but somehow, her words don't come across as very genuine. "But what does the famous Captain Levi want with me? I'd much rather be with my darling Krista right now, but I can spare a few minutes, I guess..."
