georgia has not slept in over twenty-four hours, but her editor does not give a shit. considering she is trying to get his vote of confidence to take over his job in a couple months, georgis has no option but to volunteer to run errands at the crack of dawn. after all, she can’t exactly say she has no interest in walking past the bakery. don’t look into the window, she repeated to herself the entire way down the street, but she can’t help herself. it’s a damn reflex, her eyes look across the street, hoping to catch the familiar motions of the blonde prepping the shop for the day. but instead she notices the lights are off, and there’s a figure leaning against the window glass. no. before georgia can’t think it through she is crossing the street, confirming what she already knows: ellie is asleep by the window, cheeks stained by mascara. “come on, laurier. time to go,” she speaks out loud, stealing one more glance before walking away. but there’s no use after only a couple of steps she turns around. “damn it,” she huffs as she circles the bakery, fingers reaching for the key without having to look and letting herself in through the back. “ellie,” georgia whispers, shaking her softly, not unlike the way she used to before crawling into bed when it was early enough for her to beat ellie’s alarm. “come on, you have to wake up.”
