Trama: Ciò che certamente affascina di più di questo libro è l’ambientazione molto strana e gotica: il mondo di Sang, una realtà parallela alla nostra, con molte similitudini, ma anche molte differenze. Geograficamente simile, il mondo di Sang è fermo ad un’epoca di stile vittoriana direi, ma virante sul gotico. Non bisogna mostrare neanche un lembo di pelle se si è umani, non per pudore, ma per non attirare i bludbunnies o i bludrats o i bluddoe…..(blud sta per blood, cioè sangue). Infatti questo mondo è abitato da umani e bludmen che convivono assieme e lo stesso vale per gli animali. Cos’è un bludman? Bè noi nel nostro mondo lo chiameremmo un vampiro, solo che non è morto e non si trasforma in pipistrello. Esistono animali normali, ma sono diventati rari e preziosi, gli animali selvatici sono ormai tutti vampiri e non si limitano a bere il sangue, ti spolpano vivo, coniglietti vampiri, toponi vampiri, cavalli vampiri, cervi vampiri ecc…viaggiare è molto pericoloso se sei umano. Umani e vampiri convivevano in pace in passato, e anche ora, più o meno, esiste la moneta corrente, ma molte cose si comprano a fiale di sangue, da quando è uscita la legge che impedisce ai vampiri di cibarsi direttamente dai corpi umani. Una delle prime leggi del nuovo sindaco di Manchester, e solo la prima creata per ghettizzare e poi cercare di uccidere tutti i vampiri…. Importante è anche il fatto che in questo mondo esiste la magia, e il protagonista del libro, Criminy Stain, è un vampiro, un bludman, che conosce un poco la magia e che dirige un circo itinerante, in barba alla legge vigenti lui è uno spirito libero. E dopo una delusione amorosa, ha fatto un patto con una strega per trovare il suo vero amore, incantando un ciondolo, che l’avrebbe condotta fino a lui. Il ciondolo ha fatto il suo dovere, ha cercato la donna adatta a lui, ma nel nostro mondo. Un’infermiera di nome Letitia, uscita da poco da una relazione abusiva, che ha anche perso un figlio, e che in realtà non è proprio pronta ad impegnarsi con qualcun altro. Teme l’amore, lo vede come una prigione, ma il ciondolo la porta a Sang e l’attrazione con Criminy è immediata.

La mia opinione: Criminy è un personaggio complicato, non certo buono, ma nemmeno orribile,diciamo con molte ombre, a cui non importa seguire leggi o regole e non sempre tratta molto bene la protagonista. Forse non possiamo definirlo proprio cattivo, però non posso metterlo nemmeno nella categoria buoni senza remore. E poi è un vampiro quindi un signore oscuro e quindi merita un posto in questa lista secondo me.

Ma ad Haomane questo non basta, vuole vedere del tutto schiacciato il fratello e così inizia sussurrare alle razze una profezia che recitava che se Satoris fosse stato uccisotto, il mondo sarebbe stato ricucito e i Creatori sarebbero tornati. Così le razze decisero di unirsi per sconfiggere Satoris, un essere che li aveva sempre aiutati e protetti. E lo stesso Satoris iniziò a chiedersi se lui era veramente il buono della storia...poichè se tutto ciò che è considerato buono ti considera cattivo, allora devi esserlo, no?
