both would probably be good to hear your thoughts on, actually. joining c.l.a.w. and acceptance into society for new vampires/werewolves. c:
when it comes to werewolves c.l.a.w. tries to process them as quickly as possible. they have a sort of 'meet the packs' summit every new moon in which they try to match whatever new wolves they have with the packs (usually just northern sussex and the cromwell pack because wolves who join the lake pack are a different situation). most of the new wolves join the northern sussex pack and are moved into their housing, after which they are the pack's responsibility and c.l.a.w. can go on their merry way.
wolves who don't choose a pack stick around with c.l.a.w. a little longer, since they don't have a pack to teach them the ropes of being a newly changed wolf in cromwell they have to learn everything they need to know (pack rules, customs, cromwell laws regarding werewolves) from their c.l.a.w. handler. most of those wolves go on to join the local police department, some join other public works departments (ie fire station) some of them are recruited as new handlers. this process can take anywhere from three to six months but it depends on the wolf and their willingness to learn.
vampires located by c.l.a.w. have a different process. since there are no large vampire covens waiting to take them in it takes longer to prepare vampires for life in the world after they've been changed, because a majority of them have to live on their own. c.l.a.w. has a number of vampire half-way houses, usually for strix vampires (since they have such a large population and no real support system). young moroi tend to be taken in by one of the covens, and lamia vampires are too rare to be a real issue. vampires have to learn to curb their thirst, especially with the new regulations on feeding. they learn where they can procure blood and where they shouldn't.
c.l.a.w. tries to do everything it can for the vampire population but they tend to be left behind. with trouble enforcing the new laws government recourses are at an all time low, making it hard to give the vampires the kind of support they need to lead healthy lives in cromwell. distrust for vampires is at an all-time high. c.l.a.w. does their best to turn new vampires towards a better path away from crime, but they have little to offer.
vampire processing takes around one month. any vampire that seems to pose too much of a threat to the citizens (especially in this time of political turmoil) will be detained in "the zoo" without question.
could you guys explain a little more about the werewolves that refuse to become a part of a cromwell pack and get picked up by the government? what they do, how they're treated (if its different), stuff like that? (ps everything is fabulous ❤)
Werewolves who don't join one of Cromwell's three packs aren't forced to join government/law enforcement but most of them chose it apposed to death/getting run out of town. Most of these wolves join C.L.A.W. (Creature Location, Acquisition, and Welfare) part of Cromwell's law enforcement who focus on finding and assisting newly changed wolves and vampires. Others are drafted into the Fifteen, Cromwell's "special forces", but most of them are hired by local law enforcement.
They are definitely looked down on by the pack wolves, though there are also pack wolves who work in law enforcement. Most wolves who work solely for the government are turned wolves, which already puts them in poor standing with pack wolves and the fact that they completely rejected the pack lifestyle makes the relationship even worse. That being said, they are not very close with the majority of the werewolf population in Cromwell.
There have been pack wolves who decided to leave their packs and seek some sort of safe haven with the government, it's incredibly uncommon and those wolves have a much harder time than turned wolves who chose government over the packs.
