Pulling up and through the gates of Moonbeam felt like he’d been being watched from just about every window surrounding him. Or maybe it was the fact that it was worlds away in terms of tidiness and well-kept lawns than where he lived. He’d been making enough to afford a home here, but didn’t find any reason to. Moonbeam Gardens was where you moved to when you had a family, wasn’t it? No need for a single, far-too-opinionated astroecologist to wander about. Unless of course, he’d been bringing Poppy her usual from the cafe; a strawberry shake, fries and a burger.
He parked his car in the driveway, making his way up the stairs to her home just shortly after before ringing the bell. And when five or so minutes went by, he wondered if she’d even been home. 5:17 P.M., read his phone. He was sure she said after five, or at least, almost sure of it. Dialing her number, it rang just once before Elias had been greeted by her voicemail: “Hey, I’m out front with the food. Wanna let me in? Unless…you’re not home? Pretty sure I remember you saying after five,” a beat, “anyway, I’ll just be here another few minutes, give me a call or...you know, answer the door or something before your neighbours start getting suspicious, please, thanks.”
