The Tarantula Nebula, C103 // Alex Jung
A treasure of the southern skies, the Tarantula Nebula (NGC 2070) is a chimerical structure nestled in the Large Magellanic Cloud located about 160,000 light years away in the constellation of Dorado, the Dolphinfish. Although it is located so far away, it is visible to the unaided eye and is a wonderful observing target in the beginning of the year. It was discovered by Nicolas-Louis de Lacaille (1713-1761) in 1751.
