Truth, Art, and The Now
I have no idea why I exist. I haven't changed the world or my community in any drastic way. Most of the time I'm nice, and I help out whenever I can.
As with many artists, I think my purpose is to encourage people to see differently. As an abstract artist, the "why" of it all is difficult to express using words. That's why we create using other means. Words simply aren't enough. Still, I will try to explain because that is the task at hand.
Creating art, for me, is an act of pure presence. It's not the flatline meditative type of presence, but one that involves problem solving, frustration, and joy. It is a putting forth of my existence, for a moment, that may or may not move you or open your mind.
Two years ago, word began circulating about a new arts center on the Westside. The neighborhood, anchored by the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center and the King Plow Arts Center, was quickly gaining traction as a cultural destination as its concentration of galleries and performance spaces grew.
My feature this week looks at two new art spaces in ATL.
