“Alright, pups, pay attention now.” Roan didn’t need to raise his voice to get the newest batch of recruits to the Royal Guard to snap to attention. It was an improvement over the last week or so—go full Alpha on them enough times and they would inevitably fall into line, but the learning curve for this lot was a little steeper than he was used to. Training and working with the Guard was the closest to a proper pack experience Roan would ever get, and he was pretty sure it was all he could handle.
“Now then, we’re taking a break from drills to go over one of the most important parts of your duties. Actual guard duty.” There were a few groans and sighs, but Roan silenced them with a sharp exclamation. “If you can’t handle guard duty, then you’d best be about finding yerselves a new career. Now follow me.” He set off towards the front entrance to the palace, leading the newbies like a trail of ducklings. “Screening every visitor in and out of the palace isn’t as easy as some of you seem to think, especially if you actually do a thorough job of it.” Ahead of him, he could see there was already a potential visitor waiting patiently to be granted entrance to the palace. “So today, yer all gettin' a first hand look at how you’ll be expected to search and question anyone wanting access to the royals and nobles we’re charged with protecting. Watch and learn.”
