Carleigha ran a hand through her hair as she pulled her car up to the elementary school. She’d been coming by the school for years now, offering to read to the children. All children deserved that introduction to books and the expansive worlds they could create. It always seemed to fuel their imagination. Her uncle had done the same for her when she was young, expanding her world from the bed she was often stuck in due to her health. Abbi had welcomed her to come but of course all books had to be authorized by the teacher beforehand. 

Tugging a handful of books into her arms from the passenger seat she made her way instead and down the familiar path to Abbi’s classroom. With a soft knock on the door she waved to the teacher. “Hi there, just figured I’d pop by with a few books for your approval”

There were days like this when Abbi could almost enjoy being on the island. Sure she missed London and wondered if she was a city girl at heart, but she couldn’t deny that a perfect Caribbean day like this suited her as well. The girl had headed for the beach on her free hour, as she often did, and sat on a fallen log. Sunglasses on, a fresh blunt was between her lips, and her guitar was at her side as she watched the waves. She had thought about meditating, but it wasn’t long before the urge to sing became stronger than anything else. Smiling to herself, she carefully set her blunt down and picked up her guitar, strumming for a bit before she started to sing.

Though Deckard was definitely more of an indoor kind of guy, when days were this nice, even he felt like it would be a waste to spend it all cooped up inside. He only planned on walking 10 or fifteen minutes outside to get his daily dose of vitamin D, but when he heard the voice by the beach he couldn’t help but stop. He could never sing, not even knowing that many songs so it was a rare treat for him to hear someone singing so beautifully.

Words spread fast when there's no more than a couple of walls between you and everyone else. Clyde knew what Abbi had been through. It wasn't like he pried on her – Hell, he would have preferred to have missed out on her and other people's lives if he had the choice, work aside – but there it was and thus, Clyde already knew what was going on and why the girl put on such a face.

“Well, I take back my words” He sat down next to her with a sigh. Sooner or later he would have needed to deal with it anyway, right? “Should have claimed me and we could have both escaped this place”, he told her jokingly before looking at her in slight question, going to mention the thought that has had crossed his mind once or twice. “Would you have done it back then?”
