sahid-chettair:
“You are Spanish?” they asked. “Or uhm, from a country where Spanish is the first language?” Which were, as far as Sahid knew, a few more countries than just Spain, though from what Brandon had told him, the dialect in Mexico for instance was different from Spanish Spanish. And that was as far as Sahid had knowledge of it. “Can’t you… go back now? I mean, I know some Vampires have daylight rings? Egypt has probably changed a lot, but the markets could still be there.”
They smiled. They just had to figure out where their parents had been from, but asking their mom was out of the question, their father couldn’t tell them, and any family they must’ve had, was no longer in contact with them. They wondered if they still remembered, if maybe they had tried to get to know them, if their mom had stood in the way of that. “Exactly, though… I think maybe that means I should try to learn Hindi. Though… yeah, learning a language is hard. It would be great, like in those old movies where families reconnect.” They smiled at the thought.
Carleigha smiles over to them and nods. “I was born in Puerto Rico, my biological mother was from the Dominican Republic..” She tugs her necklace from under her shirt so they can see. “I can still go, I still visit when I can actual. My brother’s family still lives there. They know all about me. But not in the daylight unfortunately. I have a daylight ‘necklace’ but it only works in Astoria. The magic doesn’t work outside of the country.”
She smiles and nods in understanding. “Its a great language. I only know a few phrases. But I’m sure there is someone here that could teach you. It’s a lot better than trying to make your way through the country with some phrase book app. However they do have some great translation apps, that can make things easier.”
