Hello!! ⚓, 🦑 and 🌜 from the artist's asks (if you want to share!)?
OHHH of course!! answering these :]
⚓ What made you start drawing?
Ive been drawing a lot since i was child but it was always the OC brainrot! I love drawing little characters and mess them up. On a smaller timescale, i lost my mojo a few years ago and havent drawn all that much if at all for some years. It was Baldurs Gate last november that actually activated those neurons again and theyve been firing since! Completely rewired my brain too and changed my art fundamentally but im here for it :]
🦑 How did you design your OC?
Taking this for Aeres because she is the only one i parade around right now!! For her (and most video game characters) i typically dont go in with a vision but see what the CC has to offer. In BG3s case, it was a lot of liking the idea of some designs but not the execution so ive taken the liberty to change stuff up.
That was only for post-tadpole and i subscribed to the idea of orin/kressa going to town on Durge, so i wanted there to be a noticeable difference in how the character carries themself pre and post tadpole. I also liked the idea of durge looking not quite right for their apparent race -> canines and big ass eyes and too long limbs et al.
With Aeres especially i designed core personality first and derived how those traits may translate to her appearance. She is an eccentric and unapologetic creature with bad upkeep!! A lot of the messiness comes from her viewing her body as merely a tool of Bhaal. Generally most of early design survived, but it is an evolution! There are a lot of little symbolisms and those have all stuck around.
🌜 How would you describe your style?
LACKLUSTER 😭 i havent drawn/painted in so long i feel like im still in the middle of finding out what feels good/natural/lends itself to my process. I do think i have a detail oriented style that lives between sketching and painting that lends itself more to illustration than to other media.
In the future i WANT it to be about muted and eery colors and emotive bodylanguage and (environmental) storytelling!! working my way there…
