||Lost and Found |Giovanni &Marissa||
giovanni-razzo:
Giovanni took Marissa’s hand and started leading her further into the maze. They passed people dancing, drinking, grinding, kissing. The deeper they went, the more disheveled people became. They passed people going off to their own dead ends and the rooms hidden there.
His heart felt heavy in his chest; like it was beating slightly faster than usual. His cheeks felt flushed and breathing hard — probably a product of the drinks and pills he’d had. He was probably not in the best state of mind for a heart-to-heart with Marissa, but if not now, when? Things were different right now, she was different. This could be the night where everything changed. They reached the end of a maze passage and Giovanni felt around for the the lever that was supposed to reveal the secret room. Before he lifted it, he turned back to Marissa, who hadn’t said a word the entire time they walked. “Is this alright?”
Marissa felt like she was floating and had pins and needles at the same time. Some part of her wondered if that that’s how Giovanni made her feel or if it was the drugs she took earlier. It was the drugs, but there was no doubt the feeling in her chest was caused by Giovanni. She gripped his hand tighter and forgot about all the eyes watching them as they floated through the maze, she didn’t even care if it got back to Wynona herself. Marissa had an issue with her last name, that was obvious, but it even came down to the meaning of it. Joy, noun, a feeling of great pleasure and happiness. Marissa found that her joy was a hard thing to catch, it was constantly slipping through her fingers. She started to question if she even wanted to feel it at all, she certainly couldn’t grasp ahold of any that night. It was like Giovanni somehow knew this because he caught it for her and placed it into her palm with his. And with that he lead her through the wonderland of colors and sensory that both excited and frightened her, she could be lost around him without having to worry about never being found.
Before she even realized it, Marissa and Giovanni had stopped and he was asking if it was okay if they were to go in. The Joy Trainee looked up at Razzo and smiled, “Of course it’s alright,” she almost purred as she leaned over and embraced the arm that connected to the hand she was holding. Marissa then reached up and pulled the lever herself. Normally someone would star at the wall moving and the new room being revealed, but Marissa had her eyes closed, she was taking him the scent of the man next to her, it was intoxicating.
They walked in the doorway and when Marissa looked up she was entranced by the colorful lights overhead. There was a single futon in the middle of the room that was a deep red, as the pair walked towards it the wall slid back into place. All it took was one look at that futon for Marissa’s legs to move on their own. She went face first in those cushions, curled up and let out a huge breath. She was laying down but it still felt like she was falling, then it turned into her floating. Her body felt numb, her mind felt numb. She closed her eyes and imagined sleeping for a hundred years, with her Munna next to her. Marissa had a hard time getting restful sleep and her Munna was the only thing that could take away the nightmares. She glanced over to the boy standing across the room and waved him over with one finger. It was them alone now, a place were the walls didn’t have eyes and they could maybe be themselves for once. That would be if Marissa wasn’t too far gone and knew which self was her actual self.
Absolution || Cesare & Giovanni
"Listen, Cesare, you must be vigilant. Rome has never been a safe place for our family. This you must learn, my son," Rodrigo had warned, his voice stern as Cesare's fingers fiddled with his cleric black. He was so young then, but his sharp mind had made sense of the cardinals who passed through arches and corridors of the Vatican buildings, busy whispering promises and making arrangements. He had listened. He had learnt. Yet he had felt lost in the midst of scarlet red cloths & golden crosses— in this new world of power & worship.
For the first few weeks, he had dreamt naught but darkness. Wherein twisted figures of servants, cardinals and kings rose in their twisted states and grappled for the throne of St. Peter's. He could even hear their nails scratching the chair, whispering of deaths & plots, baring teeth to reveal blood. He could see Giovanni with his wooden sword, a pool of blood at his brother's bare feet. Cesare would, finally, wake up suddenly at dawn, holding his desperate heart between his cold hands to keep it calm, yearning for Lucrezia's comfort. She had offered solace many times before, had pressed her palm lightly against his forehead, telling him in that soft voice, "It was only a nightmare."
And so he found himself standing before the basilica on this quiet night, his faith in God diminished but holding onto the scattered remains. For Lucrezia had been poisoned at the masquerade, and if that had been God's punishment for his sins, Cesare would pray if that was what it took to keep her safe from His wrath.
The bascilica was lit with candles as he stepped in, his figure swallowed in this huge, dilated space. Ironic that this place of God was sacriligeous— the holy unholy. Cesare removed his black hood, his steps coming to a halt as did his musings.
It was an odd time to visit this place of worship— a time past night yet not morning, and so it was unexpected to see a figure in the pews. That head of Spanish dark hair, strong shoulders inherited from their father— Cesare would recognise him anywhere.
"—Brother?"
