It was late, but the two of them had been up talking for hours. It was just easy being around Junie, and time got away from Miri. It was around two am when she looked outside and said, “Wanna go look at the stars? It’s such a clear night.”
The air had a bite to it, but they had jackets, and Miri just lay right against Junie anyway. She had the bottle of wine they’d opened before with her, taking a sip and passing it to Junie as they lay under the stars. Her watch was approaching two-thirty now, but she didn’t notice, staring at the stars as a comfortable silence lulled between them. “This is nice,” she murmurs.
