It was a day that Ted found himself seeing very scarcely, but when his mother had rang him wanting to spend the day with him and Dora and he wasn’t needed at Mungo’s, he jumped at it. With a kiss from Andy, he was out in Diagon Alley with his daughter and mother, the former between them holding both of their hands and demanding being swung.
Pari Tonks was, in many ways, learning about the magical world at the same pace as her granddaughter-- it was with trepidation that she stepped her toes into the world that had captured her son all of those years ago, but she refused to be left behind when Dora was born, and she had asked Ted to introduce her to more of their society, though she couldn’t for the life of her understand why he asked her to wear such a silly looking jacket whenever they went outside.
Which brings them to this moment, standing on the street as Dora, tired of walking, now pats Ted’s leg instantly. “Up Daddy, up!” He laughs and hoists her on his hip, pointing out the Owls in the window of the Emporium, much to Dora’s delight. “Can we get one, Daddy?”
He laughs, wanting to indulge her, but knowing that they ultimately don’t need one. “I think that Cecily would be mad if we got her a friend-- you know how she likes her alone time.” He leans close to her and stage whispers “You could always ask Nanni if she’d like to get one.”
Dora’s eyes lit up and she clapped, though Pari turns quickly and wags her fingers at the two of them. “Oh no you don’t. Dora, don’t let your daddy get away with that.”
Ted smiles easily at the two of them as they move on to the next storefront window, though it is while Dora is transfixed watching a toy broom zoom around that he sees a flash of light blue several stores down. His eyes are drawn but his breath holds when he sees none other than Narcissa Malfoy leaving a store. Dora has sensed the posture change in her father and taps his face once, twice, three times before his attention is pulled back to her, her hair now an offensive shade of purple. “Sorry, little love. Daddy got distracted.” He turns again for a moment, seeing her walk closer to them, still not sure if she’s seen them.
For what it’s worth, Ted doesn’t care if she sees him, but he is adamant to get his child as far away from her and any of her relations as quickly as humanely possible. He turns his body towards his mother, “Mum, would you mind taking Dora over to the Leaky Cauldron-- I know we said we were going to have lunch a bit later, but I think navigating Dora in that place during peak rush would be a nightmare.” His mother’s eyebrows crease and she opens her mouth to ask questions, but Ted flashes her a look that he hopes convey that he will explain later. “I just have to pop into Gladrags for a tick to get a birthday present for a mate.” He shifts Dora into her arms, much to his daughter’s displeasure, as she lets out a cry that turns the head of several onlookers. He kisses her forehead quickly to soothe her.”Hey now, be good for Nanni and I’ll see you in no time... Aren’t you excited for honey buiscuits?” At the mention of food Dora’s hair curled and she gave him a chipper smile, which he returned as he palmed her cheek. “That’s my girl.” he murmured, watching them head off towards the restaurant.
It’s only when he turns back around to place Narcissa that he sees she’s only feet in front of him and their eyes lock. Here goes nothing.
“Good Afternoon, Narcissa.”
