Everyone was panicking.
The lights had gone out and the sound of the violent storm right outside the Union Station windows only seemed heightened because of it, sending the crowd of people holed up inside into what appeared to be the beginning of a frenzy. Sure, nobody was throwing punches or trying to break through the walls yet, but it was easy to see the amount of unrest had risen.
Despite the fact that there were blankets and candles and still a bit of food to go around, people were nervous, and understandably so. Even Kasiya, who’d been trying his best to remain calm and just wait it out, was growing antsy. With the sudden loss of so much light, his vision had become even less reliable, so he was sticking to the walls and making one last-ditch effort to get in contact with his dad on the remaining 2% of his phone battery.
As the phone call ended with a voicemail recording, Kasiya just narrowly avoided getting shoved into the wall by a group of people rushing towards who knew what, but as he turned to watch them jostle off, he heard a strange crack from somewhere just down the way. The sound echoed, and through the darkness he could barely make out the shape of something huge slowly craning off of the wall.
The mirror, Kasiya realized with a start. One of the ornate decorations that lined the wall (and that surely weighed a ton) was coming crashing down, and right beneath it he could see the shape of someone standing directly in its path.
“Hey! Hey! Move!” He shouted, gesturing broadly as he ran over. When he got close, he grabbed hold of the person in the hopes of shoving them to safety, arms wrapped tightly around their body-- but he was too late, and the massive sheet of glass came down on them both.
