Guild Member Name: Weaver
Powers & Abilities: Fiber Control- Weaver is able to control the fibers of any material of which she understands the mechanical and physical properties like strength, conductivity, and stiffness, among others. While this started out as a purely textile power (the fibers and threads of cotton, wool, silk, etc), as she has expanded her abilities and knowledge she has gained control over the "fibers" of other materials. Reports during the war credited her with the ability to create and manipulate "threads" from plastic and metal sources. When she pulls the strands from the source material, the source becomes undone and loses mass. She is currently unable to command material that is part of a living animal, but witnesses have watched speechless as she turned the solid wood of an entire tree into a single braided "thread" malleable enough to dance through the air as easily as any other material she wields. She must concentrate to pull, create, and manipulate the fibers, but once she's done with them it's nearly impossible to convert them back to their original form unless she does it herself.
Backstory: Sources say Weaver comes from a small town about an hour from Newhaven. In interviews she has stated that her powers did not manifest until she was around nine or ten as she had become interested in fashion and clothing and learned about what various materials were capable of. She's laughed on camera about how her parents didn't know what to do when they found her sitting on her bedroom floor staring furiously as she sewed random bits of thread into her preexisting clothes with nothing but her mind.
Though much of her story is unknown, Arachne was a nighttime figure in Newhaven for between five and seven years before the invasion of 2018, with a notorious reputation for taking what she wanted. She had established a spider motif due to her "webs" of fibers and intense agility training which allowed her to dance and among the threads. She was incredibly slippery and preyed on civilians and criminals alike. While it's unconfirmed that the figure known as Arachne is truly the same person as Weaver, many have drawn parallels between the powers of the two. The timing of the disappearance of Arachne and the emergence of Weaver in the public eye has been called into question, but there has been no response from the Guild about these accusations.
Arachne disappeared several weeks before the invasion Spectrum had warned of, and in a city that had been preparing for the attack for months a new light emerged to fight with the heros. Able to pull threads to ensare and bind her enemies on the field from an incredible variety of sources(many that Arachne was not known to be able to use), Weaver was considered a force to be reckoned with in a fight. She was seen frequently on the frontlines fending off waves of invaders at a time, surrounded by gently waving threads and fibers of varying thickness that could lash out with no notice.
Though her official membership didn't start until just before the war was over, Weaver quickly became known as one of the more bright and bubbly Guild members. She was able to help in the rebuilding efforts as she could effectively "tie" and bind organic materials together when she became familiar enough with the properties of concrete and cement. Her career as a hero has taken off since then. The media have found it easy to reach out and get responses from her, and she is considered one of a handful of "faces" of the Guild.
Moral Alignment: Chaotic Good
Signature Move: Spool- A remnant of her past as Arachne, back when this move was known as cocoon, one of her favorite finishing moves is to completely wrap her targets in the fibers of their own clothes, unraveling the material beyond recognition beyond the color, which often becomes muddled due to the chaos of the wrappings. This particular move takes an incredible amount of concentration because she must control multiple materials, but gives her a very satisfying way of hanging her "trophies" on the various fibers she's pulled throughout the battle much like wriggling bugs in a web.
Extra Info: While her uniform is always changing due to the nature of her power, Weaver tends to use a wide variety of colors and materials to give herself access to as many things as possible. She often carries large spools of rare materials in case she doesn't have access to them from her surroundings. Weaver's sigil is the Moroccan weaving motif known as the finger, it adorns all items carried on her person, as it is a design meant to be a symbol of protection. She's known to be one of the more fashion-forward Guild members as she can do incredibly detailed work beyond the capabilities of humans and machines, but tends to keep her creations for herself. Weaver doesn't have a particular nemesis as she hasn't found a location to settle down in, and few villains are willing to follow around a hero who will take you down with a bright, echoing laugh. People do pop up to challenge her whenever she stays in one place too long, but she usually takes them down easily and hops along her merry way.
