Domaine Moncourt 2016 Saumur-Champigny: Dried herbs, generous earthy tones, and spice, wrapped around notes of red berries and plum—on a slender, streamlined frame with bright acidity adding lift from start to finish. This is a good, everyday wine at an affordable price (Under $20). It is worth noting that Cabernet Franc out of the Loire Valley may not feature the grape name on the label, so check the village: Chinon, Anjou, Saumur, Bourgueil, etc. Those hooked on varietal labeling may miss out on a Cab Franc they’d otherwise enjoy.
