The Cache Date
Got another first date idea for you lovely people! Is it the greatest idea of all time? No, not really. But it is super unique and out there, which in my opinion makes this one a winner. So without further ado, let’s get into this.
The Date
“Cache? What’s a cache?” Well dear reader, a cache or ‘Geocache’ as its properly called is essentially real life treasure hunting. People place containers of varying sizes all over the world for other people to find. Some are large, and can be found in easy to spot locations. While others are quite small and difficult to find. How do you find them you ask? Well, firstly you download the Geocache app through your favourite app store. You’ll have to create an account (I think) but you most certainly do not have to pay for a membership. I sure don't, because I don't have money for that. After you’ve downloaded the app you’ll be given a map of your surrounding area, and all the caches in that area! (Some will be blocked off to members only, but not a lot). Now it is your job to go find them. The app will act as a compass for you to follow, however once you're about 30m away from the cache, you're on your own. Hints and pictures are sometimes provided, but it’s way more fun to find these things without any help. And let me tell you, these things are tricky! Most will be camouflaged with the surrounding environment, so keep your eyes peeled! All caches will have a small piece of paper inside, so once you're found it you can write down your name and the date, proving you were successful in locating the cache. Make sure to put it back where you found it, and move on to the next one. But how to you make a date out of this?
Well, simply put you could have a date completely based on finding caches. It’s actually a lot of fun, because majority of the time caches will be within walking distance of each other. But even if you don't dedicate a whole date to caching, I still think it's a good idea to have in the back of your mind. Let’s say you're on a hike, or walking in a place you've never been before. Its always a good idea to check the app and see if there’s any caches lying around. Do you always have to go find them? No. But it’s nice to know you have something to do in case you run out of fun activities. “But what's all this about a first date idea?” I hear you say.
Writing Down your First Moments Together
Ok, this is a super simple, but highly effective date idea to do on first dates. If you’ve read any of my other first date ideas before, you know how awkward, daunting, and scary first dates can be. Sometimes, your best bet is to do something super casual in order to relieve some awkwardness. Although I still stand behind my more intense first date ideas, as I feel the crazier it is the faster the awkwardness fades. But in any case, this is a great addition to any walk in the park, coffee date or ice cream date you may be going on.
So let’s take a walk in the park for example. Nothing wrong with it on its own, and I especially like how you get to talk with your date. However there's not too much to it, as in you're not going anywhere. Well, now you can. Plan ahead (if you know the route you're going to take) and locate a geocache in the nearby area. It’s very important to actually locate the cache before hand, because you’ll look silly if you can't find it. Now as you're walking with your date, get closer and closer to the cache until you're right beside it. Say something along the lines of “Hey, do you see that funny looking thing there?” and take the cache in your hand. Tell your date that its a geocache and take out the pen you brought with you. Did I tell you to bring a pen before starting the walk? Oh, whoops....make sure to bring a pen. Now you get to write your names inside the cache, which is actually really cool because it signifies your first date immortalized in the cache! I think this is really romantic, like a new generational carving your names into a tree kind of thing. Now you have the option to continue the date and find more caches if you want, or do something completely different. The most important thing is that you did something really unique, and made a lasting memory out of it.
Wrap Up
Whoa, now that was a long post. It’s like my earlier stuff where each section was super long! Hopefully you enjoyed this one, because I know it to be very effective from personal experience. Better yet, in a years time when you two are madly in love, you can go back to the cache and see where it all began. Now that's something incredible.
Remember, make every date a story.
