Goo-d result!
On Saturday I posted a 3 part unboxing on TikTok of the Warhammer 40,000: Darktide PR gift they sent over to me. When it arrived, not gonna lie, I was a bit peeved about the gooey explosion on my apartment floor... I get what they were going for, but I would always recommend steering away from anything that has a risk of leaking into people's homes. Somehow I managed to use it to my advantage in the videos because those videos have done prettyyyyy well 🤯 I'm surprised I was included on the mailing list for this one. Just to let everyone in on a little secret: I don't ask for these fantastical gift boxes that I'm sent when new games are released. I've built up a solid network of UK folk who work for gaming, tech, PR, media, and publishing companies. I'm rarely told in advance when packages might arrive, and it's definitely a fun industry to be a part of, but it's difficult hearing people in the background whisper "why does x get this" when it's almost always down to who you know.
I've found it's even the same in the tech industry - opportunities based on who you know and how they perceive you. I'm trying to get better at giving off a good impression of myself but honestly I'm fairly unlikable, struggle with tone, and can't help being bluntly honest with people. That's not to say I don't like myself (I very much do), I'm just aware of my shortcomings and big on self development so taking active steps to improve in those areas!
