Oh, man, this is a tough one to write about. Just got word of some unexpected news out of Clemson.
Shockwave in Tiger Town: Four-Star RB Dismissed Before Arrival
Well, Banter Nation, here we go, there's some unexpected news hitting the wire from Clemson. The Tigers have officially announced the dismissal of true freshman Marquise Henderson. This one stings, as Henderson was a highly touted four-star recruit from the 2025 class, a guy many thought would make an immediate impact.
The program's statement was pretty brief, simply wishing Henderson "the best as he moves forward." As is often the case with these situations, no specific reason was given for the decision. It’s always tough to see a promising young player's collegiate career end before it even begins, especially when details are scarce.
Who Is Marquise Henderson?
For those who might not have been tracking every recruit, Marquise Henderson is a significant talent out of Belton-Honea Path High School right there in South Carolina. He was ranked as the No. 161 overall player and the No. 11-ranked running back in the 2025 cycle, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. On3's own evaluators were even higher on him, slotting him as the No. 152 overall player and No. 8-ranked running back in their On300 Rankings.
On the field, Henderson was a stat machine, leading his high school to the 2024 state semifinals. He amassed nearly 8,000 total yards in his high school career, including an astounding 6,369 rushing yards at the time he signed with Clemson, averaging a ridiculous 11 yards per carry on 577 attempts. He was actually the fourth-highest rated player in Clemson's loaded 2025 recruiting class, a group headlined by five-star defensive lineman Amare Adams.
This is certainly a blow to Clemson's incoming talent, especially at a position where depth is always key.
Looking Ahead for the Tigers
Despite this unexpected development, Clemson is still riding high after an impressive 2024 season that culminated in an ACC title and a College Football Playoff appearance. And let's not forget, quarterback Cade Klubnik had a breakout year, and he's back for another go-round, looking to boost his NFL Draft stock.
Klubnik continues to develop under Offensive Coordinator Garrett Riley, as they enter their third season together in Dabo Swinney's program. He's openly spoken about his commitment to getting better, telling On3's Andy Staples that development was a top priority for him. "I’m kind of the epitome of the word development," Klubnik said. "When I was coming out of high school, I wanted to go win and go to a great culture. But overall, I wanted to leave that school better than when I got there."
It’s clear the Tigers are focused on continued growth and success on the field. This news about Henderson is certainly a wrinkle, but the focus will quickly shift to how the current roster and remaining recruits step up.
What do you think, Banter Nation? How big of a loss is this for the Tigers?
