Handling It (2024)
Handles are an access point- they are limbs made for touching, holding, and using. In glassblowing tradition, and vessel craftsmanship traditions, handles add function and purpose to a vessel. Typically a vessel has only one or two handles or points that grant access, add context, and increase functionality. Handles come with intrinsic and intuitive instruction for the use of an object. In adding excessive handles to my vessels, the number of access points is increased to all over the vessel and in this the instructional quality becomes confused or lost. Excessive access points obstruct each-other and result in a paradoxical object which both repeatedly instructs the viewer to touch and use, yet is non- functional overall.
