“I WATCHED SOMEONE DIE, AND I COULDN’T DO ANYTHING TO MAKE THEM FEEL BETTER IN THEIR LAST MOMENTS.”

he’s lost many people himself, but he’s never been there when the people he cares about have lost their lives. he wonders if he was, could he have done anything to make them feel better? he likes to think he could have, likes to believe there was a way he could have saved the day, that his brother would be by his side now, but he’s learned to accept the way things are now. that doesn’t mean it gets any easier. ❝ did you love 'em? ❞ he asks quietly, eyes looking up to hers as he pauses for a moment. ❝ care for ‘em? ❞ he sighs, shaking his head. ❝ if ya did, if they knew it, i think you’re wrong. bein’ there --- i think that’s enough to make someone feel better in their last moments, just knowin’ they’re surrounded by people who care, huh? might not’ve taken away the pain, no, but ---- i think that’s worth somethin’. i do. i’m sorry about your loss. all of ‘em. ❞ because he’s come to expect that there are many.
