SWEATERS FOR EVERYONE 🥰
@caeloservare
mercury growled like a caged grimm as a soldier prodded at his back, tugging furiously at the cuffs around his wrists until he chafed. there was no use struggling, and somewhere deep down, mercury knew it. there were a dozen atlesian guards flanking him, and no amount of tugging could break through atlas military-grade cuffs. but giving up was not an option. mercury had never known a damn thing but the fight, and he would bleed before he admitted defeat.
the streets turned to school, turned to shiny office with no hair out of place. the privilege in it all made him sneer, earning a sharp look from one of the guards escorting him. they shoved, and mercury's legs were too weakened to keep up, so he crashed to his knees with a metallic clang.
standing before him was the general - the general ironwood, in all his pompous glory. mercury scowled and spat at the man's feet.
"general," mercury snarled, tugging at his cuffs once more. no use. he'll keep trying, though. "if you're looking for answers, i don't have any. salem's a lot bigger and badder than you, and i'm not going to be the one to cross her."
@caeloservare asked: ❛ you were the best thing that's ever happened to me. my biggest regret is ever letting you go. ❜ James @ Qrow
Qrow's brain stuttered to a stop. Did... what?
The thought that anyone's biggest regret could be letting him go was... most people wanted him gone. For a moment, Qrow could only stare, trying to find the words and failing miserably.
And for what it was worth... it was his own fault, too. He'd been secretive. Evasive. Trying to keep Ozpin's secrets like it fucking mattered. When they'd brought James into the fold eventually anyway. When Ozpin had been lying to them all this whole time.
He felt guilt about that, but pushed it away. That was a problem for another time. "I...no, James. You were right, to let me go. I was... I wasn't a great partner. At the time."
Probably still wasn't, truthfully.
Clover was not listening. Maybe he should try an energy drink, because his brain was a fluffy mush after a night pulled over maps and reports. He more felt than heard a question in the air. "Sure, hon." Clover's brain almost audibly snapped back to attention, a second too late. "Uh- Yes, sir!" No, he had no idea what was asked. Nor if he'd get away with it. @caeloservare
Clover is absolutely not getting away with it. Even exhausted and sleep-deprived as his superior is, his hearing is good as ever. Very little is slipping by him these days. Any instance of him seeming not to noticing something lately has entirely been James just picking his battles. Or assuming his constant shadows had it handled, which, to be fair, they usually did.
"I had no idea that we were close enough for that level of informality, operative." There's only a slight dusting of sarcasm, but not much. However, to be fair, he wasn't really been all that expressive lately. "I suppose it might be a good time to mention that I don't particularly care for that nickname. You'll have to pick a new one."
' be honest with me, james. what did you have for breakfast? '
' and NO, sugar, coffee and whiskey ain't water or food. '

impressive the soldier forthwith convalesce . unfazed by the loss of natural part . carries his duty foremost . Yang observe him often while touches her own . when he ultimately decided to take rest on the lounge . did she approach him to have a seat . this time being a little selfish approach for her own comfort .

The old days
Closed rp with @caeloservare continuing an idea from this thread.
At this point Clover was roughly between the ages of 15 and 20. Living on his own on the ground down in Mantle. Skipping school and acting like a nuisance. But when you live in the slums and Atlas' underbelly, you did what you had to in order to survive. Things were not easy at all, even with his semblance of luck. Sure his semblance worked for himself but not always.
Late one night Clover had taken note of an Atlas delivery plane that had landed at one of the warehouses close to where he was living. This meant that he could possibly gather enough supplies for several days. That was if he wasn't caught. It was a risk worth taking he decided to go for it, after all luck was on his side wasn't it?
Sneaking on board was relatively easy, maybe easier than it should have been. That's when he had heard it as he hid between pallets of supplies. "Alright that's the last one! Lets load it up and head out!" Shit he thought, did his semblance work against him this time? There was no chance of him getting off board without being caught, so instead he stayed hidden.
"I've caught a mouse." He came to Weiss with his hands clasped. "Want to see?"
Very slowly and carefully he opened hands enough to take a peek. Of course it's a computer mouse.
"Ewe!" She exclaimed. "Why do you have that thing?" Needless to say, she wasn't a fan. But she regained her composure, clearing her throat. "I knew that."
A pause. "This NEVER leaves this room." Her voice laced with a warning, one to not be messed with. "Also, that wasn't funny."
