An Unexpected Win
Caesar Vents: Chapter 1
Music is my life! It is also one of my only connections to the world. I live in Inkopolis, a city filled to the brim for everyone, that is if you are an Inkling. I hope to change the view of this society towards the other ink-based life forms. Like myself. That is one of the reasons music is my life. See in music no one knows what species you are, unless you make it big like Off the Hook and Squid Sisters. So when I get a call from the main radio broadcasting station to host (for a night) my favorite show, there was no power on this planet that was going to keep me from that door.
But I’m getting ahead of myself, the day started like every other fabulous day. I just finished my shift at Grizzco. If the shifts continue the way this one had, soon I’ll be paying Mr. Grizz for the wonderful opportunity of being slaughtered by Salmonids. Believe it or not the only reason I was at a high enough pay grade to drop was because of my favorite radio show, Monsters in the Night. Levi Athen the host gave solid advice about the weapons and salmonids and what works and what doesn’t. He is so cool and I’m his biggest fan. Because of his advice, I can now afford better gear. Anyway I’m getting side tracked. So I just got home when the phone rings. This was weird because no one ever called me. The only reason the phone was there was for me to call into radio shows. After the elated shock passed, I picked up the phone. “Hello?” I ask cautiously.
“Hello” came a very cheerful voice. “Is this a Mr. Caesar Pent?”
“It is.” I responded getting more confused.
“I’m calling to inform you that you won the ‘host for a night’ contest!” Her cheerful tone yet to fade.
“I don’t remember entering any contest.” The confusion growing still, but not as fast as the excitement.
“Yes well you were entered by calling into monsters in the night.” That made sense i guess. I did call multiple times. Mostly to ask questions, Levi didn’t do many contest. This would be the first I’d heard of in fact.
“Oh so what is the prize?” Trying to be calm and not assume what I was hoping ‘host for a night’ meant.
“Well as the name implies you get to host a show in particular monsters in the night.” She answered as if I was an idiot, though from her perspective I might seem like one.
“WHAT!?! really? When?!?!” I asked calmly. Well as calmly as one who just got their greatest dream come true.
“Assuming that you accept you will be hosting tonight in place of Mr. Levi Athen for Monsters in the Night.” Her cheerful voice replaced by a very matter of fact tone.
“There’s no need to assume anything I will be there!” I said in my usual self confident voice.
“We will be expected you at Ten”
“Great I’ll be there!”
Ten. That didn’t give me much time to prepare much but I had to have something. I started looking over the notes I took for myself about the weapons at Grizzco. Almost every one of them had been talked about on the show so all I had was to hope there where no new weapons to comment on. After reviewing them, I started to think of music to play. I started sampling some. Song after song until they all started blending together. It was 9:30 when I left for the studio.
When I got there 20 minutes early was shown into the workplace, there was even a monsters in the night nameplate with Levi name underneath. Having never seen the inside of a studio before, I don’t know what I expected when I got in. What I definitely didn’t expect was a war zone. The studio looked as if it hadn’t been cleaned since before I was born. Knowing that I didn’t have to get everything in order before I had to be on air, so I decide to take care of the most pressing matters first. Namely the tripping hazards, or by their more practical name electrical cords. After handling that I started broadcasting. Part of me felt like an idiot for some of the things I said, but people started calling in and gave questions, compliments, and requests. I answered thanked and played accordingly. During songs I continued to clean up squid war 2. The night went way faster then I had anticipated. I could just leave a job half done, so I stayed and finished cleaning and organizing. Oh am I so glad I did. Especially so when Marina walked into the room.
