The venue itself, The Red Room, was super cool and small and cozy too. Reminded me of the dimensions and setup of Market Hotel in Brooklyn (with windows looking out on the streets outside and everything) mixed with the up-close-and-personal feel of Baby’s All Right. Like, Eliot Sumner was literally only a foot away from me for the entire show. It’s a shame there’s not much there in the coming months that interests me, because I’d definitely like to see more shows there.
Plus, the curtain at the back of the stage made it look a bit like the actual Red Room from Twin Peaks, so that was a pretty neat bonus.
Oh yeah, and I kinda lucked into the spot in the crowd right in front of Eliot Sumner and it was pretty damn fantastic. “Information” was (as I expected) a huge high point of catharsis and energy, but so was “Species” since Eliot set the bass guitar down and was singing right over me very animatedly. Also the new song “Ribbon” is super fucking amazing and has Eliot’s best buildup yet, holy shit, I got so many chills during the last minute of that song.
