Cafebuffs: Blue Bottle Coffee Co.
What is your favorite cafe? Cafes are like second homes, a place where one goes often and indulges in ones' favorite beverages and hangs out with ones' friends and colleagues. Since people spend so much time in cafes, it is important that the cafe is welcoming with its ambience, location, food and beverages offering and the customer service.
At Beanbuffs we do not see cafe as a place to get a caffeine fix. For us cafe is like a community gathering where one is part of the bigger family. We are fond of cafes which are like that. Therefore we are starting a series where we will feature a cafe every Friday. The cafe can be from India or out of India.
Our in-house coffee fiend Baba Musicchand and I have been pursuing the cafe and coffee culture for more than a decade now and has a list of cafes and coffe jaunts to share. It will also be nice if other beanbuffs which is YOU, can share your favorite cafes, coffee joints and memorable cafe experiences.
The first in this series is Blue Bottle Coffee Company, based in California. They have been the vanguards of the artisan roasting movement, also referred to as third wave of coffee. It was founded by James Freeman, a travelling musician, and an avid coffee lover. He used to roast coffee out of his love for coffee. Later he set up a kiosk in Berkley's Farmer Market and went to set up a bare bone kiosk in Hayes Valley SFO. This is where his fame as a roaster and creator of drinks like Gibraltar grew and set him on the path of expansion, setting up cafes in twelve locations from SFO to NYC.
If anyone happens to be in SFO visiting Blue Bottle Coffee's Kiosk at Linden Street, Hayes Valley is a must for great drip coffee, New Orleans Iced Coffee, Gibraltar, Cappuccino, Latte and Ginger cookies. Here is a little video showcasing their love for coffee and everything around it.
