"I am bringing the culture of coffee back to Mexico." Meet Weenceslau (read like a Spanish version of King Wenceslas). He is a small scale coffee roaster operating out of a hole in the wall, neighbored by car repair shops and dusty general stores on a bustling steet in Puerto Vallarta. If you happen to be in the area, his business is called "Cafe Oro Verde" and it's worth the trip! When he talks about coffee, his arms wave around excitedly and his checks pull back in mid-sentence smiles. He is not the average person we interview, fluent in Enflish, French, and Italian (a native to Mexico City), and he is deeply aware of the rich cultural and political history of coffee around the world. He rants about Starbucks and about how the exploit the small coffee roasters, but not in an ironic, hipster way you might yawn at in the States. He details the history of Mexican coffee's "famine" induced by political corruption and the rise in corporate coffee as if he had written a book about it himself. You wouldn't expect such a wealth of knowledge from the man standing behind the expression bar. That's what makes Human Connections so unique because we get to hear the rich stories that come from the most unexpected places. If you look for them, they're everywhere!
