Good Friends Only from Caffe Panna

I was not able to taste the brown sugar in the base because instead of being a separate swirl, the graham crunch is evenly distributed through the pint. It makes the texture of the base kind of like oatmeal. I didn’t mind it but it was different. Other than the big dollop on top, I also didn’t have much of the fudge swirl on its own. I did have loads of the homemade PB cups, though. They’re quite good, a bit firm which can make the bigger chunks hard to break with a spoon but not so hard you can’t easily bite them. The PB is not the ultra sugary sweet of a Reese’s, it’s more nutty and savory which is a good change.

Rainbow Road from Caffe Panna

The candied almonds are fine, but not as successful (to me) as the candied pecans. They aren’t crunchy they’re CRAWNCHY. They used nice, biiig almonds and they might be a bit much. The base was a nice subtle almond flavor. Again some very mild ice at random spots—there’s no fruit in this one which is what I blamed for the ice in the KLP and blackberry flavors so not sure what’s up. The rainbow cookies are nice! Fluffy and dense simultaneously and moist. I actually think these pack the most almond flavor. Some pieces have a nice dark chocolate drizzle on them.

G’s Summer Scoop from Caffe Panna

Really nice sweet-tart, sharp blackberry base. They left the seeds in which I love. The little crunchy pops are fun. Tiniest bit of iciness but not enough to be a bother. Lemon bars are nice. Dense, smooth and bring a nice sour note. I’ve only had the frozen lemon bars from Trader Joe’s so no surprise these reminded me of the TJ’s ones.

Best Damn Key Lime Pie from Caffe Panna

Unfortunately really icy. I assume because of the good amount of fruit (purée?) used. The base is really just pineapple flavor. There’s some key lime in the back end but it’s more of an enhancer. The pie crumble (cookies) is lovely, sandy and with a sharp ginger kick.

Bob’s Dream from Caffe Panna

The fudge seemed to bleed in to the base, so my peanut butter base was very dark and the PB flavor was muted. I think more than 50% of the pint was the cookie dough. It’s very good cookie dough but didn’t leave a lot of room for the ice cream or other mix-ins.

Minted Panna from Caffe Panna

This is definitely the most affected by the re-freeze. Noticeable ice crystals.

Similar to the other flavors so far, this pint was very very loaded so I didn’t get a whole lot of the base. But it had a pleasant mint cream flavor, soft and sweet. I mostly just had the massive chunks of Grasshopper cookie for mix in. Most pieces were at least a quarter of a cookie, some nearly a third of a cookie! Kind of made it hard to scoop to be honest. I really would have liked more of the ganache.

Carrot Cake 2022 from Caffè Panna

Wow another fully loaded pint. Huuuuge dollop of cream cheese frosting which was INSANELY sweet. Almost too much for me, certainly too much for more normal people. The carrot cake was so nice, dense but not hard—still very moist with a good crumb. Nice cinnamon and clove. I don’t normally like nuts in ice cream but pecans are some of my preferred nuts to have, they’re usually nice and crispy-crunchy. Certainly true here, plus coated in sugar. Yum. A complaint is this pint was MAYBE 30% ice cream. I really wanted to try the Golden Oreo base but it was basically only a thin glue holding the mix ins together.
