"Cowboys and Indians" only seem to have a negative history together. However, Guy Weadick, founder of the Calgary Stampede, invited all tribes of Treaty 7 Nations to camp at the first Exhibition in 1912. His gesture played an important role in the celebration and promotion of indigenous cultures in Alberta. The Indian Village remains to be a large part of the celebrations where the same nations compete in contests, pow-wow, meat cutting, and story telling.
