Vietnam to build Usd 4.9 billion Mega Port, to start Operations by 2030, will eventually have 4x the Capacity of Manila’s Ports
Vietnam is now planning to build a brand new and modern Sea Port at the Cost of Usd 4.9 billion which will be called the Can Gio Transshipment Port, and the Groundbreaking or start of Construction is going to be at the End of this Month.
The new Port will cover an Area of 571 hectares located on the Go Con Cho Islet at the Mouth of the Cai Mep River, and will have a Quay or Port that is 7.5 km long. The First Phase will have two to four Berths with a total Capacity of 4.8 million Twenty-Foot Equivalent (TEU) Units per Year, or 4.8 million 20-foot Containers annually.
This is about the same as the total current Capacity of the three Ports in Manila, but of course Vietnam's will be brand new and modern, and will expand to around almost four times more at 16.9 million TEUs per Year by 2047.
At its full Design Capacity, the Mega Port will generate Income of up to Usd 1.3 to 1.5 billion per Year and generate up to 6,000 to 8,000 Direct Jobs, along with tens of thousands of Indirect ones.
