Simon is a scientist at heart, though. In a way that makes whatever they get up to, sexual or not, more intimate when the clinical-ness/professionalism mixes with romance. I don't know how to describe it, but it's a kind of unique trope within some sci-fi that has similar relationships. Like, "yes, we are married. I still wanna understand how you work and what your limits are" (which sounds sexual even if it's not supposed to)

He ends up having an allergic reaction to a new food and Simon shuts down every single request after that. He keeps up the routine of hand feeding him though and thinks it’s the only good thing to come from those experiments

That's actually so cute. Cain probably questions him a little for handfeeding him, but Simon insists he is just making sure the food's safe for him to eat, especially during his recovery from the allergic reaction. Cain catches on eventually and tries to give Simon some of his drink (he pokes his eye with the straw by accident more than once)
